Book Review: Silver Girl

Just finished another novel!!

It helped that I was forced to take a personal sick day on Thursday due to a slight fever and sore throat.  So I got a lot of reading done that day!

This book is a quick read.  I am finding that all of her books, thus far, are quick reads with similar themes.

This book is centered around 2 main characters:  Meredith a.k.a "Silver Girl" (I won't reveal why she is called that!) and Connie, her best friend from childhood.

The setting is Nantucket Island as it seems most of her books are set there (or on Cape Cod)

It's the present but parts of the book go back in time to when they were children, teens, or in college.

Summary:
Meredith's husband, a millionnaire, has just been arrested in a Ponzi scheme.  They have lost everything and he is in jail for 150 years.  They have 2 grown sons.  Meredith has no place to turn, so she calls her best friend whom she hasn't spoken to in quite some time, to come get her from her NYC penthouse.  Connie agrees and invites Meredith to her summer home on Nantucket, where Connie spends each summer, away from her job in Maryland.

It is on Nantucket where they take refuge from the outside world.  Connie's husband died of brain cancer 3 years previous and she is still grieving.  Her daughter is estranged from her (I won't reveal why).

This book begins like a retreat from the world but quickly becomes a case of "second chances".

Gradually, both women realize that their hearts are broken and that their childhood dreams did not consist of the messy realities of life.  BUT...they also learn about friendship, love, forgiveness, starting over, and that they're hearts do still beat.  This novel explores "the power of friendship, the pull of love, and the beauty of forgiveness." (quote from jacket cover)

This book is great if you like easy-to-read contemporary fiction.

It is appropriate for ages 17 and older.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, I rate this, as all her other novels, an 8.

I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of Nantucket Island...and someday, when we are at the beach house on the Cape, I hope to ferry over there and explore!!

I've never read this author before. Thanks for the review. I saw it at the library and wondered about it.
