Summer Book Review #11: Mockingjay

Well, I've finished The Hunger Games trilogy.

And wow......it's a good, easy series to read but this last book was highly disappointing!!

STORY SUMMARY

Katniss, the girl on fire, has survived! Her home has been destroyed and her best friend Gale has escaped. Her family is safe but Peeta is.......(well, I won't spoil it in case you decide to read this series!)
District 13 really does exist and there is a revolution going on.  There are rebels rising up! District 13 plans on overthrowing the Capitol!

And Katniss seems to be the only one not participating.

Will she decide to be a pawn and accept the responsibility for thousands of lives...and will she change the course of the future of Panem??

She will need to lay aside her feelings of betrayal, anger and distrust.

She MUST become the rebels' Mockingjay.......will there be personal cost??

Read it and find out!!

MY THOUGHTS

Well, I was very disappointed in this final book. It started out ok but got very bogged down in the middle.  At times, I felt as though the author was rushing to get this book done for publication.  I am not sure why I feel this way but....it just felt rushed.  And I do NOT like how she tied things up in the end.

The best part of this book was the epilogue and that might be because it ended exactly the way I had wanted  it to end....except...with a different character.  I won't tell you whom Katniss ends up with because that would ruin it for you. The ending WAS very good, from a literary standpoint.

The story itself is brilliant.  A future world with 2 people who want to be in power and both are evil.

Good really does overcome evil.

And you can survive the hardest things.......given time and love.

It is definitely a soft-core science fiction/fantasy/futuristic piece of fiction....and an excellent choice for ages 12 and older.

On a scale of 1-10 ,with 10 being the highest, I rate Mockingjay a 7.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate the entire series a 9.

The BEST book, in my opinion, is the very first one, The Hunger Games.

Read them.....you will enjoy the story and characters.
