Thanksgiving Faves

It's Friday!

The day after Thanksgiving here in the USA.

I'm at my in-laws home in southern MA while my daughters are spending the night with their uncle and aunt across town.

I wasn't going to participate this week but I decided to bring my laptop and work while the guys were watching the Patriots whip the NYJets!! I even ended up watching some football and I NEVER watch football! It was a good game!

But...how can we skip finding five faves during the week we take to focus on all our blessings?

Thanksgiving is a special time for my family and the things that stuck out the most to me this past week were:

Fiddlers Lane
  • A GORGEOUS AFTERNOON:  this was the view I saw on my way home from the school Wednesday afternoon.  It was a gorgeous day with warm sun, golden colors, and temps in the 50's.  What a way to start the long Thanksgiving weekend!

  • GRANOLA WITH FLAX PLUS!  This cereal is new to me and I'm so glad I discovered it at my local grocery store!  I was actually looking for a different brand of granola and saw this. I now prefer this!  It has 5 grams of fiber and ALA Omega 3 plus the flax seeds and rolled oats.  I like it added to my yogurt but it tastes great just in a cup with a little skim milk.  It's sometimes these simple things that help make our week feel special....good granola on sale is a plus!

  • QUIET START TO THANKSGIVING!  I loved that this year, Dave, Claire and I didn't leave for Massachusetts until Thursday morning.  We enjoyed our time together after work/school on Wednesday evening by going out for subs, bringing them home and just relaxing, finishing up the packing, preparing the sweet potato casserole I bring to the feast, and reading.  The morning brought warm temps and golden sunshine and we didn't rush out the door but enjoyed breakfast and the morning paper.  The drive out to where Dave's youngest sister lives in north/central MA was pleasant and hardly anyone was on the road!  I loved it!!

  • SKYPING! My oldest daughter really misses her older cousins, one of whom is doing grad work up in Canada and the other one is in college in Scotland.  Courtney decided to try to skype with Hanna (the one in Scotland).  Claire loves her older cousin too so decided to skype, too. Dave's youngest sister Paula has a daughter named Debi who was in pilgrim costume for the day!  They all had so much fun talking to Hanna who had a break from classes.  This was all arranged via Facebook.  They set up the time, etc. and it was soooo good to see Hanna's face and chat with her.  Staying in touch with cousins is a real blessing!
  • HOT COFFEE!  For the last few mornings I have been very thankful for steaming hot mugs of coffee.  I love it, it has always been a favorite beverage of mine and now with all the new flavors, I am in coffee-heaven!  My latest fave is DD Peppermint Mocha minus the whipped cream and sugar. This morning, I am at my in-laws just drinking regular Melitta coffee but wow....piping hot on a chilly morning...there's nothing like it. Good conversation, coffee and my husband.......it's a blessing.

That's it for me. I have some thoughts about family and Thanksgiving but my time is limited today....so I can spend it with some of this extended family on my husband's side whom the Lord has put into our lives......

be blessed this weekend, everyone!!

I buy that same granola at Costco except it is a Pumpkin Flax. I'd love to try the vanilla flavor.

Skype is a great thing. I need to take better advantage of it. My brain is so far from techno stuff, I forget about it.

I so much prefer a relaxed start to a trip than a frazzled rush out the door. Hope it sets the pace for your whole Thanksgiving weekend.

Skype is a wonderful invention! We skyped (how did that become a verb?) with our Ohio grandson.
Spending Thanksgiving with family is definitely a fave, as is unclogged roads!

PS: I'm hoping that my family will treasure the Christmas stockings for years to come--they chose the motifs and colors they wanted.
Re: photos. I think I may have to just buy the storage for the photos, but I really don't want to.

Good morning, Faithe. I hope your weekend has been a blessed one.

We didn't head out to our Thanksgiving destination until Thursday morning as well. I also enjoyed the relaxed Wednesday night and Thursday morning. I thought the traffic would be horrible. But it was the opposite with our arrival time being earlier than normal.

I need to look into skype. It looks like a great way to have face-to-face time with those who are absent.

How fun to be in costume for the day.Did Debi make it?
