Busy Week Faves

Friday already?!
And November?!  Let's pause and sit in a favorite chair with a steaming mug of good coffee (or tea) and reflect back on the week to share five fave things/people/events that turned into blessings.

Then hop on over to Susanne's site to join in with others who are being intentional about finding the blessings.

FIVE FAVES
  • OUTDOOR CHORES: Saturday was a gorgeous day.  Crisp, and sunny.  That wonderful smell of autumn.....dried leaves, old grass, wood-smoke. Dave raked and bagged nine bags of leaves. (I had raked and bagged 4 after work one day). While he dealt with the leaves, I put away the deck decor and rug, folded up the end tables and chairs, put the umbrella down and tied it, put flower pots in the shed, and put away the front porch rocking chair (under the blue tarp in the photos)and put the fire pit to bed.  It's bittersweet. There are so many amazing things about living in the north-east but I do get sad when I can't eat my meals out on the deck or sit out there in the evenings to read. But... I'm thankful we got the entire outdoor chores done in one day.

  • NATURE TIME! After the chores in the backyard were done, Dave had to get ready to work at the church on Production so I headed out to the Cohoes Falls which is just 5 miles from our neighborhood and then I took a 1.5 mile walk on a new part of the biking/walking trails in our town park.  What a nice time I had. I was by my self on the walk other than a few bikers who passed me and at the falls there were many people snapping pics.  The falls were raging due to the bad rain storm most of New York received last Thursday night. In fact, I was supposed to hike in the central Adirondacks but most of the main roads were closed due to much damage and flooding. There's been a lot of devastation...especially in the south-western region of the Adirondacks which is nearby my hometown in central NY.  Out here in the eastern part of the state we didn't get much damage at all. I'm thankful I had some nature time and that the road crews are working hard to restore the areas where our beloved hiking trails are located. (The Adirondack Mountains haven't seen that kind of devastation since Hurricane Irene blew through in August of 2011).

  • HELLO, FRESH!  The PT (Physical Therapist) where I teach is a huge fan of the Hello, Fresh product.  She invited me to  receive a free box!  I chose 3 meals ( 2 chicken and a tilapia ) for my first box.  I'm not trying another one until the first week of December as we go away for Thanksgiving and I have a fully stocked fridge and freezer for the next 2 weeks. But this is going to be awesome!  They send you all the ingredients to cook a wonderful meal for 2 people. The downside is that there are really NO vegetarian or vegan options.  As in none.  The other downside is that you can't choose dinner for 3.  Just 2 or 4.  Which to me is odd. Last evening I made the Tempura Tilapia, Ginger Rice and Lime-Ginger dressing for a greens/carrot salad.  It was absolutely delish and like most typical American dishes, we had too much meat and not enough veggies. I'm thankful for the ease in planning and cooking.  I'll probably cancel the plan after the December box but I'm thankful I was invited to try it.

  • CHURCH VISIT! My cousin Trisha who's just a couple years younger than I am and lives about 35 minutes away, visited our church for the 9 a.m service.  Since Dave was working Production, he saved us 2 seats in the front.  She loved it!  She is a member in a different church near her own community but I invited her last weekend as we were doing a special Acoustic Worship weekend with all classic and a few modern hymns.  She really enjoyed it! She hopes to bring her family in the future.  I'm thankful she was able to attend!

  • MOVIE NIGHT!  Last weekend, Dave and I had a movie night.  We chose Under the Eiffel Tower via Netflix.  It was a pretty good rom-com...and a perfect way to relax after a long day of chores and errands. I'm thankful we have Netflix and can just chill out on the family room couch together.  It's one of my fave things to do in the colder months.

That wraps up my week.

How about you...what made you smile this week?  What are you most thankful for as we head into the weekend?

Yes it is sad when everything goes away for winter but looks like you did a good job, especially with all the leaves. We love HelloFresh. We've been using it for a while now - it makes life so much easier especially on the days I have Rory and don't get back very early. Surprising to hear the differences though - we can definitely select meals for 3 people and there are always veggie options (not sure about vegan because that's not something I look out for but I do try and have 1 veggie meal each week.) It's also helped me try things I wouldn't usually cook. It's not particularly cheap here but I am definitely wasting less food.

Nice to get all those outdoor chores done in one day. I have not tried Hello Fresh, but I've heard about it. I'm glad your cousin could visit your church. I haven't heard of that movie. I love watching movies, especially on Sat. nights.

The changing out of seasons will be something I need to adjust to when I move.

I have heard of Hello Fresh. But I wouldn't be interested in it if there aren't any vegan options. I wonder if the company has had any feedback on that...

I always enjoy seeing where you hike and walk!

I've never heard of that movie before but a relaxing evening with movie and popcorn is always a fave for me and my Dave too. Such a pretty area with the falls and the blue sky and colored fall leaves. I've still got tons of leaves on the grass. With our surprise snow in Sept. it hasn't really allowed for getting those leaves picked up and bagged. They just can't seem to dry out. Oh well. Lots of warm homes for ladybugs and other critters this year, I guess.
