FIRST DAY OF NOVEMBER FAVES!

What happened to October? It just flew by!

While I'm pausing to take a break from housework after teaching all day, I'm going to share 5 of my fave blessings....faves....and then link up at Susanne's site to join in with others who are being intentional about finding things to be grateful for or that put smiles on our faces this past week.  Won't you join us? What made you smile?

FAVE FIVES

coffee from the DR!!

  • HOME AGAIN!  Dave is home again from serving all last week down in the Dominican Republic on the medical missions team our church sent out to help serve one of the organizations our church sponsors:  SCORE International.  We sent 4 nurses, 1 doctor and a few non-medical volunteers of which my husband was one.  He actually helped with hospitality, organization, and dispensing of the medicines and vitamins.  It was a great trip and the Lord used them to help very needy people, including severely handicapped children and orphaned girls. Sadly, many of the people they served were wrapped up in voodoo practices but they were very receptive to the Gospel!  This was Dave's sixth missions trip since we were married in 1990 and his first medical missions one. Of course he brought us some gifts one of which is a fave......coffee that is basically espresso...it's strong, smooth and just amazing!  We've been enjoying it all week in the mornings before work.  I'm so thankful for good coffee, safe travels,  and successful missions trips!

  • ENCOURAGING WORDS!  On Sunday, our senior pastor stopped Dave and I in the lobby to talk with us and give us some encouraging words and thanked us for our service to the body of believers.  This meant a lot to us.  We first got to know him in 2005 when we transitioned from a church that was becoming rather dysfunctional and when we first heard him preach we were blown away!  I did tell him truthfully that I thought i knew the Bible pretty well and yet every time he preaches, I learn something new!  We will celebrate being members for 14 years in a couple weeks.  How thankful we are for our church Grace Fellowship/Latham and our senior pastor and his wife.

  • AFTER WORK POWER WALKS!  I'm back to walking after work most days for some cardio exercise.  I can finally walk 1.5 miles without my back aching!!  I walked each day except for yesterday as it was Halloween and the little ones started ringing our doorbell right after work!  (probably because rain was forecast for after dinner).  I loved getting the fresh air as the temps have been very mild for the end of October in eastern NY and our area is just past peak color.  I'm hoping to get in a hike tomorrow with a co-worker for some fitness time in nature. I'm thankful I'm back to working out!

  • HALLOWEEN! Yesterday, most of us at work (Special Education Preschool agency) dressed up as our fave color M and M.  We agreed on shirts and just put our own logo on it, black leggings, and matching tutus.  This photo was during our break after the students left at 1 so some of us weren't wearing our tutus as we clean the classrooms after the buses pull away and we couldn't wait to take them off!  I was thankful to borrow a real French style tutu from the Dance Academy where Claire (my youngest and a ballet minor now at college) studied ballet/pointe for 14 years. We all had a great time with the students and even some of them came in costume yesterday. I'm thankful for a fun work environment and for an easy day!

  • POWERFUL TESTIMONY:  Wednesday evening was small group and I had the house all set for all the ladies.  There were two blessings from that evening:  one woman brought homemade from scratch pumpkin/apple/pecan bread.  OH MY!  It was delicious.  And one woman took her turn to share her testimony of how and why she came to Christ. Wow.  It blew us away......it is a VERY powerful testimony and she has been through a lot in her life.  It is amazing what the grace and mercy of God can do to a person's life story.  I'm so thankful she shared her story and it went very nicely with our discussion as some of what she's experienced is what this past week's homework was on.  God is good!!

That wraps up my faves for the week.  I hope you all have a  wonderful weekend!

I feel that way about October, too. I'm thankful your husband's mission trip went so well. What a blessing to receive encouragement from your pastor. I like the M&M dress-up idea! I always love hearing how people came to Christ.

Glad you're hubby made it home safe and sound and with coffee in hand! Sounds like it was a very rewarding experience. Glad you are getting outside for some walks without pain. I dread Halloween each year. It is so much more work for me with the dayhome I'm always exhausted at the end of the day. How nice to receive that encouragement from your pastor!

Love your new look (the costume). That would be fun to have everyone at work dress up. For years our church had a respite program and sometimes I would dress up for that and go visit them. I miss those days.
Oh Yum, being able to try coffee from different parts of the world is indeed a treat. How awesome that your husband has been on those mission trips. Someday I hope to also go on a medical mission trip even though I would be non-medical personnel.
It is a blessing to be able to hear the testimony of others. And whether a woman’s testimony is full of heartache or is not so traumatic, I am always encouraged to stay close to God.
Have a great week, Faith.

Good to hear Dave got back safely and his trip went well. It must be a very satisfying thing to be able to do as is your involvement with your church activities. Also glad to hear your back is better. I find when my back is painful keeping moving helps me but we've not had the best weather this week for getting out to walk.
