EARLY JANUARY FAVES

I've had a good first week back in the classroom teaching our precious preschoolers with special needs and I'm thankful to say that all 6 of the children in my language group have been here all week and are beginning to get into a good routine when they come to "circle" with me.  (the other 7 stay in our main classroom where Heather teaches her circle).  Anyways, it's been a great week back and good to get back to the routine of work.

For now I'm taking a moment to share five of my fave things from the past week, then linking up at Susanne's site to join others in this gratitude meme.

  • NECK MASSAGE!  For the last 3 weeks, I've had horrible shoulder pain (left) radiating from my neck.  I had no idea why although symptoms since mid December point to a pinched nerve. I had a pinched nerve in my neck years ago and it went away within 3 days so this has been perplexing and frustrating.  I've tried all kinds of self care and finally called my chiropractor.  I've had 3 chiropractic appointments this past week and what relief I've found via a new stretching exercise she taught me, along with electric stim on the area where the pain is greatest and the neck massage and adjustment.  I've actually had a couple days where the pain was barely there.  I'm thankful that I have a bit of relief.  I've been told this is a process and can last a few weeks longer. Of course I'm praying it will soon resolve itself.   The neck massage is what I'm most thankful for.  It just feels so good!!

  • WORK OUTS!   I went on the treadmill both weekend days, did my stretches, and did some simple yoga in the mornings before work. I also managed to get two nice walks in after work, outside in the fresh air.  On the treadmill I only do about 1.5 miles.  My goal this winter is to work up to 2.5 and run longer on it.  Right now I can't even run a half mile.  I've been doing a fast walk, then run, then walk, then run.  It works for me and doesn't seem to aggravate my knee issues.  I love getting a good cardio work out in and since I can no longer do aerobics or jumping of any kind, the treadmill it is for now until I can get back to my mountain hiking. I'm thankful the treadmill is right in the basement (I tend to watch netflix while on it!  it's a win-win!)

  • MESSIAH!  No, not the oratorio although of course that's a fave with me.....but...the new Netflix series!  It's excellent!  I'm thankful for a good series that keeps me guessing as to what will happen.  No, it's not entirely Biblical....it doesn't pretend to be!....but it IS entertaining and quite fun to think that "what IF Jesus did come back in our life time??  and soon?

  • HONORS!  I had word this week that Claire (our UNH girl) received her grades for the fall semester.  She earned all A's and one A- giving her a GPA of 3.9  We are wicked proud of her and so thankful she can keep up with her studies while also volunteering two hours every Monday morning at The Freedom Cafe as well as volunteering on Friday mornings at Waysmeet.   (as a member of Alpha Phi Omega). She also has two 3-hour rehearsals two evenings a week so she must manage her time very well to earn those grades.  We're thankful she is still home and doesn't have to return to university until next weekend and that she's such an ambitious learner.

  • COZY FLANNEL PANTS:  my oldest daughter and I bought matching flannel pants back around Thanksgiving, anticipating cold winter nights curled up on the couch with books and netflix movies.  Well, it hasn't been super cold yet this winter (temps have been in the 30s and 40s with night time temps dipping into the 20s...it was actually colder here at the end of autumn/beginning of December than it's been since the Winter Solstice day when winter officially began).  Anyways......I've worn them around the house a couple of evenings this week after work and chores and they're so comfy!!  They're  too warm to wear to bed as Dave and I tend to snuggle together and we have flannel sheets.  But for around the house, I'm thankful for that cozy, flannel feeling.
That wraps up my week.

Whatever your plans are this weekend, I hope you find time to rest and re-charge!!

PEACE

Hi Faith - sounds like it's been a great week. Twice in my life I've neck/shoulder pain so bad I had to have several weeks of physical therapy. I have been told that women tend to carry stress in the neck and shoulder areas. Hope you are feeling better soon. Yes, a good massage does help! Congrats to your daughter on such excellent grades. Good for her! So glad she gets to spend a little more time at home before going back to school. That series sounds like an interesting one. I have seen the previews, but we don't have Netflix, but have been thinking of signing up. Glad to hear that things are going well for you back at work. My high schoolers, like your preschoolers, do get into a certain routine and it it awesome when things "click" in the classroom and you can feel like you are making a difference. I love those comfy jammies - they look so warm and cozy. Charly and I snuggle in bed too. I love having my soul mate sleeping close to me. Have a great weekend,

Congratulations to Claire on all her hard work paying off with amazing grades. It felt good to get back to workouts after Christmas though it just makes my head spin how long it takes to get to a certain point and how fast that diminishes when I don't keep it up. The way you are doing the treadmill workout (High Intensity Interval Training) is probably better for you anyway than running for long periods at a time. Oh that neck issue does not sound fun. Glad you were able to get some relief! My sis started watching that Netflix show but said she doesn't think I'd like it. We're watching a really well done one called The Chosen.

I'm sorry about your neck/shoulder pain. Glad the massage and treatment helped. I hope it goes away soon. Nice to get in some time on the treadmill. I've been watching When Calls the Heart on Netflix while riding my stationary bike. Congratulations to Claire!

I'm always looking for a Netflix series - or I should say Jim is. I rarely watch them.

Those cozy pj bottoms are cute!

Congratulations to your daughter. I was thinking of you the other day as Gordon College is right around the corner from where I work and I thought of you as I drove past on the way to my daughter’s house. My sister bought my mum and I matching fleece pajama pants for Christmas. My mum lives in the first floor apartment and my husband and I in the second floor so it’s funny to see my mum and I visiting one another in matching fleece!

Well done to Claire. You're right to be proud. I'm sorry you've had problems with your shoulder, having had a trapped nerve I know how painful it can be. I hope the therapy continues to help. I like getting back to normal routines too. Enjoy your weekend.

I'm so glad your neck pain is better now!
We started back to the gym this week. I may have worked out a bit much yesterday :) Having a treadmill at home would be nice.
Congrats to Claire!
Those flannel pants look so warm and comfy. I may need to get a pair...
