THANKSGIVING WEEK FAVES

I've been on Thanksgiving vacation since Tuesday at 2 pm (our agency director allowed us to leave an hour early that day!!) and it's been so relaxing despite having to cook Thanksgiving dinner and clean the house.

I'm pausing on this Friday morning to give thanks for the blessings in the week.  It's hard to just find 5 but here's the FIVE FAVES that make the list.  Join in with us over at Susanne's site!

FIVE FAVES

  • SURPRISE MAIL!  Dave and I received a wonderful surprise in the mail last weekend:  a thank you card hand-written by our senior pastor.  The message inside was just so special to both of us.  I'm so thankful that even though we are in a mega-church, we personally know and are friends with the senior pastor and his wife. They are so special to us, for so many reasons.

  • GIFTS!  On Saturday, I was forced to stay in as I was dealing with a scratchy throat and fatigue and wasn't sure if I was contagious or not.  (apparently not, as Courtney and Dave have been fine and my symptoms were gone within 48 hours).  Anyways, I was able to rest and part of that was putting together the Christmas gifts I purchased for my work colleagues.  The bags are for my site supervisor and the 2 educators on my classroom team. I bought them gifts specific to their interests. The tiny bags are all the same items for everyone else in the other 2 classrooms (therapists, teachers, assistants and our 2 aides).  I bought in bulk from Bath and Body Works the mini hand sanitizers in holiday scents and added in some Hershey hugs and kisses. Tags were created with stickers and card stock from Michaels.  Easy peasy and I'm thankful this is done and ready to be delivered to school in a couple of weeks!

  • PHONE CALL!  Our youngest daughter, Claire, is still at UNH of course to wrap up the semester.  She called last weekend to say she'd be home on my birthday in early December and will still have finals to take remotely.  If fact, her very last final exam for first semester, is on her birthday! She called just to say she was definitely staying on campus for Thanksgiving so she could avoid coming to NY and then having to quarantine when back on campus. We're thankful for her mature decision and for her hour long phone call. She also called us Thanksgiving morning to say hi and to chat about her plans for the day. I'm thankful she was getting together with one of her UNH friends after she ate the yummy food she made for her self.  She's dealing with this new normal with grace!

  • DINNER AND A MOVIE:  Wednesday evening we didn't want to cook dinner as we had the fridge full of stuff for Thanksgiving Day.  So Dave and I ordered out  from the local diner and had it delivered and we sat in the family room and ate and watched this cheesy romantic comedy.  We had never seen it before....it's definitely an early 2000s movie and a bit dorky but we had a blast together unwinding from a day of prepping food and cleaning house.  I'm thankful for evenings like these and I'm super thankful for Grub Hub!

  • THANKSGIVING!  It was a nice, warm day after it stopped raining.  The sun even came out in the late afternoon.  We had my younger sister Joy and her son Luke over for the feast. (my other 2 younger sisters stayed with their own families in their own homes).  Dave cooked the turkey full of stuffing, the gravy and the squash.  I did the potatoes, corn, peas, apple pie, pumpkin chip muffins and the drinks.  My sister brought pumpkin pie, chocolate shortbread cookies and apple bars.  Everything was delicious and yes we have a lot of leftovers but that's because we are actually home!!  Usually we have between 22-32 extended family on my husband's side all gathered in Massachusetts (Plymouth County).  Since he is a direct descendant of one of the first pilgrims on the Mayflower, Thanksgiving is their big holiday.  It was kind of strange to be in NY yesterday!  I was so busy hosting that I neglected to take photos!! We ate around 2 pm, then sat in the family room where we could safely social distance, and chatted.  We ended up playing a round of Password before having coffee and pie.  It was such a great day and I'm thankful we were able to have a Zoom call with Dave's side of the family after Joy left. And I'm thankful everything went well. There really is a lot to be grateful for and the Lord is good....even with this coronovirus, God is in control.  He will get us through this if we trust Him for peace and pursue Him.
That wraps up my Thanksgiving week faves.

I am still on vacation until Monday morning so I'm off later to walk in one of the nature preserves to the north of us and to drop off some of the leftover turkey to my sister.

I hope you all have a very relaxing weekend!

It sounds like you enjoyed delicious and beautiful Thanksgiving—different, but wonderful nonetheless. I wonder if you enjoy leftovers as much as me? No need to cook anything new for a few days! Here in Canada, we enjoyed Thanksgiving back in October. It is pretty low key around here but I still enjoy a few days of leftovers (until we're sick of it all!).

Hi Faith. Sounds like a very nice week and Thanksgiving. I just found out that I also have an ancestor who lived in Plymouth Colony. The older brother of my 12 great grandfather came over on the Mayflower - and even fell off of it! I think I posted about that. My adopted father's direct ancestor also aboard the Mayflower. I would love to visit Plymouth Colony one day! Enjoy your long weekend. Our COVID numbers at school are high again so we are back to 100% online starting Monday. See you again soon. I saw your very nice email and was too tired to answer last night, but will do so later today. :-)

Sounds like a wonderful week. In MA we are only able to visit with Vermont and Hawaii because of COVID so we had a very quiet Thanksgiving this year. I’m glad that you recovered quickly and it didn’t turn into something serious.

That's one thing that makes all the cooking worth it--leftovers for days! So glad you had a good Thanksgiving and got to talk to Claire. I'm glad your illness got over quickly and no one else got it. I'm trying to think whether I have seen that movie--if I have. it's been a long time. How nice to get surprise mail and your colleagues' gifts done.
