Friday. First one in this last month of winter/beginning of the Spring season.
Taking time today to list FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the week with other bloggers who link up over at Susanne's site.
Cottage 1 at The Shamrock Long Lake, NY |
- DEPOSIT DOWN! Last week I was able to book our absolute favorite cottage on our absolute favorite Adirondack lake in one of our fave Adirondack mountain villages. Same price as last year and this time we are staying for 10 days instead of just 7. Super excited for our summer vacation. The best part? It was available during my fave week (the last week of August through Labor Day!!). I'll be off from work as summer school is only 6 weeks (3 in July and 3 in August) so Dave will also request that week off. We're hoping both girls can join us even if it's just for a night or two. SO thankful our fave cottage was free!!
the rocking chair I received as a 4 yr old little girl in 1964 then passed down to my oldest girl when she was 4 in 1997 |
- ROCKING ON! You can read about the rocking chair saga here. I'm so thankful Dave and I, with our faces masked, and standing socially distanced, could meet my cousin Wendy and her husband Mike, to give her the chair. This made me smile as we hadn't seen each other since my dad's funeral almost 3 years ago. We couldn't gather last summer for the family picnic due to covid guidelines so we are hoping to gather this summer. I'm also thankful she told me her dad (my Uncle Cliff and Dad's younger brother) is still doing well.
- HELPING HANDS: A friend of ours, the former pastor over Small Groups Ministry at our church, who now attends elsewhere and has a job in the secular world, asked if anyone had Harry Potter novels for his daughter to borrow. Well both of my girls own the complete set. They both bought their own. Courtney bought hers brand new and doesn't want to loan them out. Claire bought some new and most at a used book store. She said SURE when I texted her to ask so I met T at his office after work yesterday and wow...it was SOOOOO good to stand and chat (yes with our masks on) as I hadn't seen him in person in about 5 years. It was just awesome and I'm so thankful I was able to lend a helping hand, thanks to Claire's generosity.
- HIKING HELP: Yesterday, during our lunch break (we can no longer eat with our students due to Covid19 rules), my hiking friend/colleague and i ate together in my classroom and I asked her for some tips regarding a long hike I want to attempt this summer. She has hiked it twice and had some excellent advice for me. It's a tough 6.1 mile loop because you have to go up TWO mountains and back down, half way around a pond, and along a ridgeline that of course is a bushwhack as you can't really mark ridgelines unless there are cairns and this one has no cairns. But she gave me some tips about how to navigate the ridgeline to find the trail that continues into the forest. I'm so thankful we spent this time together. We've hiked together in the past and I hope to do with her this spring.
- VACCINE VERIFIED! I finally got to make an appointment for the Covid19 Vaccine! This place finally opened up for teachers in my county and the next county over. I'm so very thankful. I have to wait until 22 April but at least I got in and so did my husband Dave!! His appointment is the next day at the same place as he is a risk due to his past heart issues. I'm super thankful I was able to get in before summer!
That wraps up my five faves for the past week.
I hope you have a safe and relaxing weekend!

It’s been nice to see the restrictions lightening up just a little bit. That hike sounds wonderful and so does your cabin. You have a lot to look forward to this summer.
Great post! Good news about you and Dave getting vaccine appointments! That hike sounds so great. I love that your summer plans are coming together. Hope you have a good weekend.
Wow, that's so neat that you were able to book your favorite cottage! And sweet about the rocking chair. I had one as a child, but as I was the oldest of six, it probably went through my siblings and got discarded during a past move. That's so neat that you were able to find a good home for it within the family. And that you could visit with your cousin and help a friend with the books. I'm glad the vaccines are becoming more readily available and you are both scheduled for one. My husband's work sponsored one vaccine session, and we hope they do another. Barring that, we should be among the next tier to get them when our doctor's office gets them, as we both have health issues.
I'm glad you were able to schedule your vaccination shots.
And yay for getting the cabin you want and the week (ten days!) you want!
How sweet to be the helper and coordinator for a good deed.
I hope you stay warm on your hike tomorrow :)
