Senses of September Faves

Friday, and summer is officially over!  We are now into Autumn and the school year is going great so far although we have had many students absent this week due to runny noses and coughs.  Thankfully, as a teacher, I have to wear a mask while the children are in session so it helps to keep their germs away!  That, and a LOT of cleaning, sanitizing and hand washing.  But it's all good and I'm finally  able to sit and breathe for a few minutes to share in the weekly FFF (where we find FIVE of our FAVE blessings from the past week).  I link up at Susanne's site with other bloggers who take the time to share their blessings.

This week I'm sharing various things that made me aware of my 5 senses.

FIVE FAVES

The Scent of Cinnamon-Apple Pie

  • SENSE OF SMELL:  APPLE PIE! Sunday after church, I made a vegan chicken pot pie for Claire and I.  Dave had a long missions team meeting which included Sunday dinner.  While the pot pie was baking, I put together  the first of the season Cinnamon- Apple Pie with plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg.  Oh my did the house sure smell delicious.  I also had a cinnamon apple candle burning which really gave the house a nice scent in this week that led up to Autumn.  I'm thankful for the sense of smell.

  • SENSE OF SOUND: CRICKETS AT NIGHT! We have a lot of crickets here in suburbia all throughout the summer and into autumn.  In fact, I just learned that crickets tend to get louder in the evening as autumn approaches.  I love  hearing them as I do chores after dinner and while I'm drifting off to sleep.  And even in the morning when my alarm rings at 5:30, they are still chirping! I'm thankful for the sense of sound.

  • SENSE OF SIGHT: GOLDEN SUNSHINE, GOLDENROD, and AUTUMN RED: Seeing the golden sunshines on a hike I did with friends last weekend, along with the sun shining on the lake we stopped at to sip our coffee after lunch; seeing the goldenrod waving in the breeze on a hot late summer afternoon while walking in a local nature preserve; and seeing the first hint of autumn on the first day of Autumn on Wednesday's after work walk in a local preserve.  I'm thankful for these beautiful sights and for the sense of sight.

  • SENSE OF TASTE: NEW COFFEE FLAVORS AND FARM FRESH PRODUCE!  I had to run an errand in the Market Bistro where Claire works as a Barista at St*rbucks, and she made me  an amazing new coffee drink:  an iced Apple Crisp Macchiato.  Oh my.  It was really good.  I actually liked it until the very end (the bottom of the cup was all the apple part and it's super sweet and I only had 1 pump! I can't imagine what it's like with the regular 4 pumps!)  It was something I probably won't order much of, as I prefer the Maple Pecan flavor but it was fun to try a new coffee.  And we had some fresh produce from a local farm and the tomatoes were absolutely outstanding.  I had them freshly sliced and also put them into a wrap for lunch and  into a salad for dinner.  I'm thankful for the harvest of fresh veggies and fruits and for the sense of taste.

  • SENSE OF TOUCH: CRUNCHY LEAVES AND SOFT PINE NEEDLES!  Last Saturday, two of my hiking friends (Gerri and Ingrid) and I went on an adventure in an area of the Adirondacks I don't know as well as other areas.  We were near Fort Ticonderoga and Schroon Lake looking for a little lake called Pyramid Lake. We found the trail ok, but due to lack of good signage and badly placed blazes (trail markers) we never did find the lake but the walk on the soft carpet of pine needles felt so good!  At one point I just had to kneel down and touch them with my hands.  It felt (and smelled!) so good.  Just like late summer and early autumn.  It's hard to describe unless you spend a lot of time in the woods in various seasons.  And the crunch of crisp, freshly fallen leaves (and some from last year!) on the trail in a local preserve where I did some power walking after work Wednesday, was music to my ears.  I love that crisp, crunch and the scent of decay mixed with the pungent odor of the various leaves underfoot.  I know you know what I mean.  It just "smells" like "Autumn"and "feels" like the world is preparing for the colder months. I'm thankful for the sense of touch.
That wraps up my faves from the past week.

Tomorrow I'm headed up to Woodstock, Vermont for my Annual Autumn Girls Day Away with my sister Joy and my two daughters.

Whatever you have planned, make it a time of rest and relaxation!

HAPPY WEEKEND!

I love the smell of something baking with cinnamon in it. And the taste, too! Yay for autumn colors and fresh, crisp produce. And crunchy leaves.

I love your theme of sense this week. Smell--cinnamon apple YUM. I would say taste there too.
Touch--yes, the crunchy leaves underfoot. I really really want to do another hike tomorrow or Sunday.
Enjoy your weekend away! Hopefully, it will be pleasant and sunny.

I loved this post, Faith. So thankful for all my senses. I don't make pie but love it and nothing beats a homemade apple pie! I tried that starbucks drink, but I got a hot one half sweet. It was good but I still like a dirty chai better. I'll try it cold next time.

And again with the forgetting to change accounts. That last comment was mine.
