TUESDAY MEME

I'm waiting for my husband to come down out of the home office and join me for dinner. I haven't started it yet as I'm still thawing out some chicken.  I decided while I'm waiting to participate in this meme I saw over at Linda's.

  1. What are you doing on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day:  Well, the photo above will give you a hint. We (Dave and I) have booked a hotel just south of downtown and will be spending a little romantic getaway in our fave city on the east coast.  I'm super excited because the weather is supposed to be very mild!  It's been awhile since we did First Night in Boston.  We leave Friday and  will pop down to his folks in Plymouth for a few hours on Saturday and then Sunday we will spend all day and most of the evening in Boston proper.  We have plans to hear a classical concert at one of the churches, attend the Figure Skating show, wander around the ice sculptures, taste some good food, sample some cocktails, etc.  And we'll end the evening with fireworks before getting on the T to go back to our hotel and spend the rest of the night alone in our suite. New Year's Day we will sleep in, spend some time in Scripture and have  breakfast before driving back to NYS.
  2. Do you have any New Year traditions? Rose Parade? Mummers? Football games or parties?  As a little girl, my parents always had the Rose Bowl parade on but then we would help put away the Christmas decorations and get ready for school the next day. When my daughters were little we would take down the tree together and play board games or go visit grandparents. For the last 15 years, I've gone hiking in the mid-morning then taken down the tree. I'm typing this on the day after Christmas and I took our little tree down this morning. My living room still has some Christmas decor up as does the rest of the house but the tree is all packed away.  Dave likes to just watch movies and do his online gaming although this year we will be traveling home from Boston. We will probably order out some dinner to eat at home.
  3. Is the day after Christmas a bit of a let-down or do you continue to be merry and bright? Neither.  Hubby had to work so he's in home office today through Thursday.  I just caught up on laundry,  cleaning and putting away the tree.  Our oldest daughter came over for lunch and helped me put together my new Ikea chair that Dave surprised me with.  We also practiced some French together. It's just another day at home for me. But I'm relaxed so that's a good thing.
  4. Do you have anything in mind for the New Year and do you start off the new year with high hopes and expectations?  I'm not sure what is meant by the first part of this question. If the person who first asked this means do I have any goals, then yes.  I do have a few goals in mind although not as many as in recent past years.  I'll be doing a post about those sometime next week  when I'm done traveling. I do have some expectations for the new year. I expect to find a place to volunteer my time and maybe use my teaching skills a bit. I'm expecting great things from the new walking/hiking group I'm forming. I'll be writing more on that in coming weeks. Oh and I'm hoping/expecting to have a good number of women sign up for the new book club I'll be hosting this winter and spring.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas day!

Enjoy the week!!

I just love the week between Christmas and New year's. I put my tree away the day after Christmas as well. It's always so nice to have the house clean and organized. My sister-in-law always does a hike on New year's Day and I have taken up that tradition as well.
