March Faves

It's a good day to look back at the week and find FIVE blessings that stand out to us.  Blessings that are FAVES.  I'm needing to be intentional this week about finding the blessings, because it's been one heck of a week with lots of rain, and grey skies for most of the week although yesterday afternoon the sun came out!  I'm linking up with other bloggers at Susanne's site. Check out how to join in, here.

my front yard rock garden
  • COLOR!!  I spied some yellow color in the drab rock garden this past weekend....a crocuse had pushed through the soil and opened up in the brief moments of sunshine. I'm thankful for early signs of Spring!

  • SUNDAY DINNER:  I sat with our oldest daughter at church on Sunday as Dave had to work on the Production team.  After church, he had a lunch provided by the church for the Guatemalan missions team members and so I invited Courtney over for Sunday dinner.  We cooked blackened salmon, cous cous with green beans and garlic.  It was delicious and while we ate picnic style in the family room, we watched another episode of The Handmaid's Tale.  We are almost done with the series!  I'm thankful my oldest had some free time to pop over and although she didn't stay all afternoon, it was nice to have her for dinner after church.

  • NEW FRUIT:  Of course I've had red currant jelly/jam but never have I seen fresh currents in the local grocery store. This past week, they were being featured. They're pricey so I only bought the pint but wowza....they are GREAT!  Full of antioxidants and all kinds of  good vitamins and TART.  I eat them raw with some blueberries and also added them to my morning steel cut oats with added raspberries, blueberries, cinnamon and walnuts. I'm thankful for fresh berries.

  • PAIN FREE DAY:  I've had on and off back pain, neck pain for years and as you know, what I've been told are cervicogenic headaches almost daily for the last  2 years. Monday was a totally pain free day!  I was so thankful that I felt normal.  It didn't last but I'll take any pain free days that come my way.  I had a good doc visit with my PCP and she sent me for an Xray of the upper cervical area. She was shocked that the neurologist I saw twice has done absolutely nothing except order a toxic med and blood work. I'm not going into details here but she's recommending a new neurologist who has more experience with headaches and spine issues AND she's willing to talk to my chiropractor. The new neurologist is also female and a NP and they got me in for early April!!  I'm thankful for pain free days and my new doctor who happens to be a Nurse Practitioner as well, and better about listening and treating than most MDs I've seen.

Afternoon walk at The Crossings

Crossings Pond on an overcast day

  • WALK IN THE PARK:  Monday afternoon was mild although overcast.  The sun had been out but it started getting cloudy during my first half mile of the walk.  There were many people out and about Monday afternoon, including young children on the playground portion.  I did the pond paths and down towards where the sculpture is (see first pic) and then back up and around the pond the other way and then up and over the part by the playground.  I did about 1.3 miles and I'm so thankful for the fresh air and milder temps.

That wraps up my week.  If you think of it, please do keep my husband in prayer as he travels to Guatamala (left early this morning) with the Missions Team from church.  He'll be preaching a sermon in Spanish...his first time...to some mens group down there!!  (he's been teaching himself Spanish the last few years and had some help with the sermon translation from one of the team members who is Puerto Rican.).

I hope you have a relaxing weekend doing the things you love!

Many prayers for your husband down in Guatemala. I find it amazing that he will be preaching in Spanish! I'm guessing that's not his native tongue. When does he return?

Praise God for the pain free day and your PCP who has referred you to another neurologist. I hope this new one can give you some answers. Chronic pain is no fun. I've dealt with fibromyalgia for years and you never know when you wake up in the morning what kind of day you're going to have.

We've had lovely sunny weather here in TN, at least during the first part of the week but now it's gloomy and cloudy with rain coming. Those are the days I light my candle for some cheery ambiance.

It's wonderful to have your daughter so close for impromptu lunches and visits! I wish 600 miles didn't separate my daughter from me.

Have a blessed weekend!

That is so cool that Dave will be preaching in Spanish. Josh did that when he was on his mission in Mexico. Those currents look so good. I have not seen those in the stores around here. So glad you had a pain-free day and got to do some walking. You have some lovely places to walk close to your home. Have a great weekend! See you again soon.

Praying for Dave. How exciting that he was able to teach himself Spanish well enough to preach. I've never had fresh currants but I do love tart! Love the little crocus doing it's thing. We are jumping way up in temp over the next week so I'm sure once the snow melts some of the spring flowers will start to bloom here too. I'm so glad you were referred to a new neurologist with better experience in regards to what is happening with you!

How neat to have Sunday lunch with Courtney. It's so heartening to see color crop up outside. I don't think I've ever had fresh currants, either. It's so good your dr. is referring you to someone else. I used to be wary of NPs, since they didn't know as much as doctors. But I have found they are very helpful and willing to listen. I'm amazed Dave taught himself Spanish well enough to preach in it. I hope his trip and esocially the preaching goes well.

I've said a prayer for your husband. :)
I don't think I've ever eaten currants.
Hope things work out for you with the new doctor.

That is so nice that your husband will be on a mission. Our church sponsors a couple in Guatemala and a few others too. I have never tried currants and I bet they are good. I will have to try some. I am sorry about your pain. Good that you will be getting a neurologist to help you. Have a nice weekend!

I hope all goes well for your Hubby in Guatemala and he makes it home safe. I also hope that the new neurologist will be able to sort out some long term relief from your constant pain. Hope you've had a good weekend.

I saw that Dave made it safely to Guatemala. Preaching/teaching in a second language is not always easy.
So thankful with you for any pain free days you have. And glad too that you have found a better fit for your medical needs.
We had a couple of wonderfully warm days last week and saw so many people outside on the trails. That was great. Now today (Sunday) it is snowing (but not sticking). Hopefully, the weather will warm up again this week.
Have a good week ahead!
