"Even when the rainbow seems to pass right by me....I'm still finding Gold in the clouds....."

I'm linking up at this site to participate in the Saturday 9 meme.

Saturday 9: People (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Barbra Streisand sings that pride can get in the way of happy relationships. Have you found that to be true? Yes I've seen this in several people I know.

2) The photo on the record sleeve was taken on Chicago's Oak Street Beach, as Barbra watches the sun rise over Lake Michigan. Have you been to the beach yet this summer? I'm at one as I write this!  Long Pond in Plymouth MA where the cottage we are staying in is literally right on the beach (see yesterday's post). And we were at Scusset Beach on the Atlantic yesterday as we walked there via the Cape Cod Canal trail.

3) Barbra performed "People" more than 1,350 times when she played Fanny Brice onstage in Funny Girl. She also did it in her Oscar-winning turn as Fanny in the film version. She performed it in her first TV special back in 1964 and in at least 510 concerts since. That's a lot of "People!" Can you think of another performer who has/had a song that is so identified with them you can't imagine seeing them in concert without hearing it? Dancing Queen by Abba (although to my knowledge they've not been in movies).

4) Barbra got her first pet, a poodle named Sadie, as a gift from the Funny Girl behind-the-scenes crew when she was 23 years old and she's had dogs in her life ever since. Did you have pets when you were growing up? No we had no pets because my dad was highly allergic as were me and at least 2 of my 3 younger siblings

5) Barbra has always taken her Jewish faith seriously, beginning with her days at the Yeshiva of Brooklyn. 70 years later, her old school is still there. How about your grammar school? Does it still stand? Our elementary school is still standing although it's no longer being used as a school and our former junior high is now apartments in my childhood hometown. The high school is still going strong although they are way down in numbers as that area of NYS is quite economically deprived.

6) She tried marijuana a couple times but didn't like it and the only alcohol she drinks is the occasional beer with her Chinese food. Are you like Barbra and generally abstain? Or do you enjoy pot and/or alcohol? Being a "Jesus freak/hippie kid" I was raised to not drink or smoke and no I've never put tobacco or pot in my body.  I do enjoy various cocktails, a good FingerLakes region Riesling, and certain Italian wines.  But I'm drinking less alchohol these days to opt for lower calorie mocktails.

7) Barbra's favorite lunch is a bowl of Campbell's condensed tomato soup. If we were to peek into your pantry, would we find any canned soup? Here at the cottage no.  At home, yes....a few cans of cream of chicken to use in recipes, a can of tomato probably and maybe clam chowder for hubby. I prefer making homemade soups.

8) In 1964, when this song was popular, hats were, too. The Sears Spring/Summer catalog devoted six pages to ladies hats and two pages to mens. Are hats part of your wardrobe? Only when I'm hiking or walking in temps of less than 30 degrees F or only if attending a barn wedding/outdoor wedding in summer. When I was younger I'd wear this super cute one for Easter Sunday.

9) Random question: Which of your personality traits has gotten you in the most trouble? My extroverted side...i used to get into trouble for chatting in classes ALL THE TIME when I was a child and teen.

These were fun questions!  Play along!!

Hi Faith. This was a fun post. I've never smoked anything - pot, cigarettes or anything else. I don't drink either. All fine with me. You vacation time at the beach sounds so great. Glad you have been able to rest and relax after everything else that has gone on this summer. I wear cowboy hats when I hike to keep the sun off my face. I don't really look good in hats, but not quite as bad in cowboy hats and they do have good sun protection. Have a good weekend. See you again soon.
