Where in the world has this month gone already? I mean, it's mid-month! Does time seem to go by faster as we age??
I'm pausing in this crazy busy week to share FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the past week. There are always so many blessings God brings into our lives, isn't there? sometimes they're big and obvious and other times they are just small things that make us pause and say "Thank You, God". Other bloggers enjoy this weekly meme and you can join in by going over here.
Round 2 |
- MORE LEAVES! Last weekend, Dave raked up 6 more bags of leaves and I carried them to the street for removal. (our neighborhood gets leaf pick up every Thursday). This was round 2. Round 1 was SEVEN bags and as I type this, more of the maple and pear tree leaves have fallen so this weekend will probably generate 3-4 more bags! I'm thankful this chore is being done by my husband as it gets him outdoors for some much needed fresh air and exercise. I'm also thankful I can still carry those bags although I was told to NOT lift them above chest level. God is good and I'm thankful for a hard working husband.
- WINTER MODE! On Monday, I was in deep cleaning mode for preparing for the colder, winter months. I thoroughly dusted and vacuumed the family room where we gather in the morning sunshine to do devotions, drink our coffee and watch the first part of the Today Show. We also gather here most evenings to read or watch a movie on one of the streaming services. We always have to move the couch to the inner wall between the room and kitchen to free up the heating vent which is behind the end table in the bottom pic. You can also see the 2nd vent on the floor next to the rocking chair. There's a 3rd vent by the deck door. With those 3 free in the cold months, the room heats up better. The family room has a bamboo floor and is on a slab unlike the rest of the house, so that room does feel a lot colder in the Winter. I'm thankful I could get this chore done and checked off my list.

- QUIET MORNINGS: Sunday morning was a beautifully quiet one here in our neighborhood. Now that it's November, most of the neighbors are not outside mowing yards or making noise on Sunday mornings so I can enjoy a very quiet power walk. Sunday was briskly cold but so sunny. I went for an early morning walk then showered and got ready for church. Dave had to be there early as he was serving on the Production team so I had the house to myself for a few hours and it was so peaceful. I love and am thankful for quiet mornings.
- PASSED! Our youngest daughter, Claire, took her optician licensure test yesterday and passed! This means she can now apprentice under the optometrist at her work place and she will also get a raise. She has to do 2 years of an apprenticeship before she can get her NYS license. I'm so thankful she has found a good career path and that she passed the test!

- MOUNTAIN HIKE: On Wednesday, the group that I lead (SoulSteps Hikers) had a rescheduled hike. We were headed to Goodnow Mt in the north-central part of the Adirondacks, right below the High Peaks. I have climbed that mountain 4 times now. It was my friend Joan's first time. Originally we were going to hike it on Veterans Day and there were 6 SoulSteps members signed up. However, it was raining hard up there that day so I had to reschedule it. Because I rescheduled it for Wednesday, 4 of the members had to back out due to needing to work or had appointments. That left just 2 of us. We drove 2.5 hours north, then began our trek around 10 AM. Got to the summit around noon, had lunch in the glorious sunshine, hiked down and did some other exploring in the area which I will share about in another post. We were the only humans on this mountain all day. We finished the hike around 2:30 so spent the next 2 hours poking around Tahawus. I'm so thankful we had sunshine because it never got above 38 degrees F. It was COLD. But we loved it. It was our last mountain climb for 2024.
Those are the things that made me say Thank You, God. So many blessings.....
it's good to give thanks to God for them.

That is a lot of city, and I bet they look so pretty on the trees. I admire how you get out and walk. I am in a city and I would love to walk with trees around me. Our street has trees, but not the same as being in nature. I can't even drive with my thumb splint on. We do like to decorate early and enjoy a longer season. I have a lot of things and decorate every room too. Enjoy your weekend!
susan: not sure what you mean by a "lot of city"???? we live in the suburbs north of Albany and I hike in the Adirondacks where are NO cities. hahah
Hi Faith. Once again beautiful pictures of your hike. You home looks so cozy and inviting. It's great that you got all of your leaves raked up. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!
Congratulations to your daughter for passing the exam! That's a great milestone for her.
Love all the photos of your hikes.
You are giving me encouragement to do my winter deep clean-- your place looks great.
Have a good weekend!
I love the cozyness of your family room. I tend to get into deep cleaning mode at this time of year as well. Congratulations to your daughter. How exciting! My husband works nights so I often have peaceful evenings even though I do miss him it is also nice to have some peace and quiet and alone time.
Congratulations to Claire for passing her exam! It is great to see your kids settled in a career.
I am amazed at the miles (and hours) you travel for a hike. You must be on the lookout for new ones all the time. Your walking group is a wonderful way to get together.
I remember raking leaves in the yard where I was growing up. I don't remember what my father did with the piles. Probably burned them. We didn't have an pick up service. And as I understand it, you have a burn ban going. The drought conditions have been brutal.
Have a great weekend!
How great to get those chores done. Congratulations to Claire! I like having the house to myself sometimes, too. And it is nice not to hear lawn mowers, weed eaters, and leaf blowers going all the time.
My mom used to say how fast time was going and I'd secretly roll my eyes but now I'm doing it. LOL. It does seem to be whipping by. That is a lot of leaves. We have tons too, because of the towering aspens in the backyard. Good for you for getting the winter house prep done. I'm so behind and no motivation. Congratulations to Claire! That is exciting!
