This FFF image is the perfect one for eastern New York in March. We are seeing so many birds at the feeders and perched in the trees and roadside. I'm loving that Spring is almost here as is evident by all the birds we've seen lately that are migrating back north.
I'm also filled with gratitude for simple days this week....not super busy but busy enough to not get bored during these retirement days. I'm so used to being constantly moving! It's a blessing to look for five things that made me smile and say a special "Thank You, God". Join in with us as we share our FIVE FAVES by heading over to Susanne's site.
FIVE FAVES
Veggie Frittata, turkey bacon, waffle |
- FARM FRESH EGGS! My friend Joan (she's a member of my hiking group and is one of the directors where I volunteer) owns chickens on her farm to the east of us. She and I had a client visit together last week and she gifted me with a half dozen eggs. I'm so thankful for her generous gift and she refused to take money! So I made Dave and I a veggie frittata with green and yellow peppers, onions, and broccoli plus a small amount of cheddar cheese and we've been enjoying it for breakfast. There was enough for leftovers another day!
mr Robin! Sunday 9 March |
- ROBINS!! The robins are back which always make me smile. My mom, now in heaven since 2012, used to love to watch the robins in her backyard. They really are fun to watch when they finally decide whose backyard tree they're going to nest in. We usually have a family around mid-April. This robin was perched in our far back maple tree behind the shed/kayaks and I noticed him when Dave and I were over at the kayaks Sunday getting some required info off of them for our application to house them at the state park this year. I told Dave maybe the robin will bring us good luck and our number will be chosen again! We find out in about 3 weeks.

- SPRING CLEANING: I've been doing a little bit of spring cleaning this week: I tackled the kitchen cupboards and countertops and took everything off, wiped everything down thoroughly and did some rearranging of our microwave cupboard and corner counter. The tiny counter between the fridge and the stove has always annoyed me because it's so small. This time, I moved my cookbooks (yes, I sometimes still consult one of them! I love my cookbooks although I managed to donate 3 over the last year to a thrift shop) to that area and put the fruit bowl on the top of the microwave. I also cleaned up the coffee corner. We have the automatic drip brewer with gold filter, a coffee grinder, and then you can see the French Press just to the right of a tin of cocoa I keep on the counter in the colder months. That tin will be replaced by one that says "Tea" on it in the summer months which holds tea bags for brewing iced tea. I also added a little lamp to the coffee corner because we're having issues with the "under the cupboard" lights Dave bought. We may need to replace those. I'm thankful I had some time this week to finish up the kitchen cleaning.
- PRAYER PARTNERS: I'm thankful for friends who also act as prayer partners. Specifically, my oldest friend Diane W, my friend Cindy, my new friend Maggie, and my blogging friend Deb. I've reached out to them regarding a specific issue and I can feel the Lord working in that request. I"ve also been priveleged to pray for Diane regarding the same issue as what I'm dealing with (we have some moderate spine issues), and I've been keeping Cindy's husband in prayer along with an issue she's dealing with. My friend Maggie has me praying for her daughter and 18 yr old grandson (he's been missing for over a week) and I've been keeping Deb in prayer regarding an issue she told me about. God is good to give us friends in the Body of Christ and it reminds me of the Scripture from Galatians Sometimes I have to let go of my pride and remember to ask friends to pray for me. I'm thankful He nudged me this week to do so.

- MOVIE NIGHT: I had my own movie night this week, on Monday evening as Dave had a project he was working on in the upstairs office and wanted to get to bed early afterwards. I turned on Hulu to see what I had on my playlist and this was on there. It was one of the very best movies I've ever seen on a streaming service. It was clean, romantic, had drama, and was very inspiring. It was set in the 1950s in Ireland and NYC, specifically Brooklyn. The major theme was the mother-daughter relationship and familial ties/obligations vs having one's own life. I'm thankful I took time to watch this beautiful movie. It put tears in my eyes in the end. Highly recommend this!
Those are just some simple things I'm thankful for this week.
How about you? what are you thankful for as we roll into the weekend?

Mmm I bet that fritatta was lovely with fresh eggs. We get a robin or two visit our garden feeders but they nest elsewhere. We still have a lot of cookery books and we do consult them fairly often. I love your fruit bowl with the banana hanger on top. I have two separate items but yours is a much better use of space. Good to have people to rely on for prayers. Have a good weekend.
Hi Faith! I love all of the simple blessings you found in an ordinary week. I'll have to keep that movie in mind, although we no longer subscribe to Hulu. I love all your spring cleaning and straightening. You inspire me to do the same. Have a good weekend. See you again soon!
That looks delicious. I enjoy watching the birds outside. I like what you did in the kitchen. Way to go on Spring cleaning. That is wonderful news on your prayer partners. Yes, I love that movie too. Have a nice weekend.
We used to buy fresh eggs from a church member--so good. We've seen some robins here, too. How sweet to have that connections with robins and your mom. It feels so good to get some of that cleaning and organizing done. Friends who pray are a blessing. I'll look that movie up--I'm often on the lookout for clean movies.
Such a generous gift - those half dozen eggs! And that frittata looks wonderful!
I do like how you're arranged your cabinets. I'm always looking for ideas. It does feel so good to clean things up and rearrange!
I saw a robin the other day which always makes me happy. Robins remind you of your mother. Tigers remind me of mine. She loved Siberian tigers and had several stuffed ones sitting around her room.
Have a great weekend.
