This group is my youngest sister's absolute fave boy band. I mean, she's 15 yrs younger than me so it makes sense. They're definitely not my vibe (ugh....that breathy tone is horrid!!) but she at almost 50 is still obsessed with them and actually still goes to their concerts. So I'm participating in this meme today thinking of Jill. 😀
Saturday 9: I'll Be Loving You (Forever) – 1989
1) A Greek philosopher said, "There is nothing permanent except change." The New Kids on the Block sang, "I'll be loving you forever." Who do you think is right? Or can both be right?
Yes, both are correct. Change is constant and you can love someone forever. God is love and I love God and He is eternal and my love for Him (along with my love for my husband and two daughters) will continue into eternity.
2) In this week's song, New Kids lead singer Jordan Knight sings that he can't take a broken heart. What advice would you give someone struggling through the end of a romance?
Hm....I'm going to guess the author of these questions means the end of a teenage or young adult romance and not the end of a marriage. So: my advice: does this person help you be the best version of your self? why or why not? if you can't honestly say yes then perhaps it's time to move on. Also, you won't find pure happiness in any one person. Part on friendly terms and know that it's ok to end things if it isn't growing you.
3) Jordan was invited to join the New Kids on the Block by his friend, Donnie Wahlberg. Has a friend ever gotten you a job?
No but I heard about a job through my mom's friend (my first summer job and because that friend worked for the county and it was a county job, i was able to use her to get it! ) and then during college, my dad told me about an opening at the factory (Remington Arms in upstate NY) where he was working (they were hiring college kids for 10 weeks for 2 summers of my undergrad days and back then college kids didn't have to pay taxes on their summer jobs (early 1980s) so I made some good money those 2 years.
4) Donnie began his show business career as a singer/rapper. Now he's probably better known as an actor, appearing for 14 seasons on a popular police show. Can you name it?
Nope. I know it's probably NOT Law and Order SVU the only television show I watch.
5) Much of the video for this song was filmed in the gymnasium of Xavier High School in New York City. When is the last time you were in a high school gym?
The last time I was in a high school gym was my youngest daughter's parent orientation the summer she was going into 9th grade. The building principal and freshman hall principal both gave presentations in there as well as all the department heads. It was boring as I had already sat through my oldest's orientation 5 years earlier.
6) The video also shows the boys enjoying pizza. What toppings are on your dream pizza?
garlic, chopped broccoli, red onion, red, green, yellow peppers, pesto sauce, chopped tomatoes.
7) The band is back together! The New Kids on the Block will be appearing this summer at the Park MGM in Las Vegas. Do you have any concert plans this year?
Yes: not technically a concert but the NYCBallet performance of Coppelia my 2nd fave story ballet in July at SPAC; and we will probably get to 1-2 concerts when the Philadelphia Orchestra is at SPAC in August. Also, we have tentative plans to go to the Jazz Fest at Tanglewood the end of Summer. There are several local bands/folk bands/pop bands that appear in various places in the ADK during the summer that we sometimes attend. No solid plans for those yet.
8) In 1989, when this song was popular, Irish golfer Rory McIlroy was born. He recently won the prestigious Masters Tournament. Tell us about a competition you won. (Yes, your third grade spelling bee counts.)
The one that first pops to my mind is I won a spot in the All State Chorus in junior high and again in senior high. I also won the top spot in a Scripture memorization contest with CYC (think Christian Girl Scouts only co-ed). I beat a boy who was always competing with me. He's now a pastor and teacher at a Christian college in western NY.
