I'm participating in the Saturday 9 meme this morning while I wait for the coffee to brew. I really liked these questions this week.
To learn how to join in, head over to this blog!
1) In this week's song, Lainey Wilson longs to hit the open road. What do you yearn for this morning?
It's only going to be in the 40s and low 50s for the next few days, along with rain (which I know we need now vs Summer) but I'm yearning for temps to stay in the 60s-70s and more than one day of sunshine. I'm also yearning for the mountains and can't wait until Mud Season is done.
2) She says her heart runs on dreams and gasoline. What fuels you?
Coffee. 2-3 large mugs. Every.single.morning. And Scripture/meditative readings. This is what fuels me.
3) Lainey sings that her heart has been "drug through the mud." The correct past tense of "drag" is "dragged," but in parts of our country, "drug" is sometimes used. Can you think of any other grammatically incorrect song lyrics?
"Lay, Lady, Lay" by Bob Dylan (lie, lady, lie would be the more correct phrase grammatically speaking. But musically, the title he chose is what works hahah) I'm sure there are others but this one is one I remember. Lay (I took several literature and literacy courses in college and grad school) is for an object. Ex: I lay the book on the table. Lie is for a person. Ex. She needed to lie down on the bed. It doesn't take an English degree to know this my friends.
4) She tells us her truck could benefit from being dusted off and shined up. Could your vehicle use a little TLC?
Actually my car had the ultimate car wash about a week ago and is looking pretty good now that snow and salt is not an issue.
5) Before making it big in country music, Lainey supported herself by doing odd jobs, including appearing as a Hannah Montana impersonator for kids' parties. What's the most unusual job you've held?
Probably the most unusual job I've ever held was a 4 month seasonal position in a mall out in western NY near Lake Ontario. I was working part time for a frame store of high end oil paintings. Only the very wealthy could afford these paintings and frames. It was owned by a little old Italian couple (she used to leave me Italian pastries and always had excellent espresso). I worked the 4 pm-8 pm shift (when they closed). It was 1983. I had to learn how to hammer on a frame without damaging the painting. The owner said I was a natural (not sure how!!) and they were sad when I moved away and went to grad school. It was a fun job and wow.....really opened my eyes to the retail world. It was a good way to make extra money from my subbing (teaching) gigs and my other job as a nanny. I was always so paranoid though that I was going to ruin a painting. One time a customer got very angry with me when a frame she chose didn't fit the painting and didn't come in gold. The particular frame she chose was silver. I had to call my boss so he could explain over the phone that some of the wood for the frames comes from Italy and he just did NOT have the option in gold. She got very mad and stormed out leaving the painting she had bought!! I never knew if she came back to retrieve it but I do know she spent over $1000 for it!
6) In addition to singing, Lainey has acted, appearing in 5 episodes of the series Yellowstone. Are you a fan of the show?
I've never seen the show. No idea what its' all about or what streaming service it's on. š
7) She loves Southern comfort food like mac and cheese and biscuits and gravy. What's on the menu at your place this weekend?
Slow cooked stew is on the menu for tonight.....with plant-based "steak tips" It will include the vegan meat, potatoes, zucchini, green beans, carrots, onions. I will serve it with dinner rolls. For Sunday? no idea yet
8) In 2022, when this song was on the charts, Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Have you ever been to Scotland?
No but it is on our bucket list for sometime in the next couple of years, depending on how my husband's company does with Christmas bonuses and pay raises in the next year. Our niece Hanna lives in Scotland and graduated from St Andrews. She loves it and won't ever live in the USA probably, ever again. She got her MS degree in England. We will definitely visit her and her boyfriend whom she lives with, once we go over.
9) Random question ā Let's pretend you're back in Kindergarten. Which of these would young you prefer: a toy kitchen set, kid-sized gardening tools, or a mini trampoline?
All of them, actually but most especially the kid sized gardening tools. My sister Joy, 2 yrs younger, and I used to use our dad's gardening tools to play "bakery" in our childhood backyard out in central NYS. My mom would set up our "kitchen center" toy set in the backyard by our shed in the summer months. We played "bakery" for hours!
Happy Weekend, Everyone!!

I went with the garden tools, too. Your job at the art shop sounds very interesting.
That job in the frame story sounds fascinating. You got such a glimpse into your customers' lives! I admit I always stumble on "lay" vs. "lie." I think it's because so many people get it wrong in conversation.
Iām also looking forward to warmer weather
