I was only 11 years old in 1971 and although parts of this song sounded familiar, I don't really know it at all. I did like this week's questions though so while I'm waiting for the tea kettle to boil, I thought I'd play along.

Saturday 9: Rings (1971)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song is about a young man who is happy to hear his phone ring. How about you? How do you feel when your phone rings? (Excited, annoyed, surprised, etc.)
It depends on what my caller ID shows 😂 If one of my daughter's is calling, I'm happy; if a friend from church, college, or my hometown, depending on who and why, I'm either surprised, annoyed, or happy.
2) He's got James Taylor on the stereo. Are you a James Taylor fan?
Absolutely! I've been a James Taylor fan since my teens. In fact, I know right where he used to come spend time in the summer months because I hike there often!
3) He tells his girl he's been hanging with his buddies, Tony and Mario, but they're no substitute for her. What friend did you recently spend time with? What did you do?
The last friend I spent time with was last Saturday. My dear friend Celine whom I reconnected with a few years ago when we found out she and her husband also are members of Grace Fellowship church (she, Dave and I were in a wedding in our former church back in the late 1980s!). Anyways, she joined my hiking group and my new friend Maggie whom I met at church last year, also joined. My friend Joan is also a dear friend and we've only known each other for about 2.5 years. The 4 of us all went hiking and spent a day in the mountains last weekend. The hike was followed by a history tour. We had such fun!
4) Tony and Mario were real people. They ran a restaurant frequented by the songwriters. Did you dine out this past week?
Yes, I went to this place for brunch yesterday with my sister Joy.
5) "Rings" is the only hit for the band Cymarron, who hailed from Memphis, a town known for classic southern comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, cornbread and mashed potatoes. What's on the menu at your home this weekend?
I'm going to assume you mean the dinner menu: for tonight: sauteed sweet potatoes, zucchini, peas, baby corn on the cob, carrots, yellow peppers, "steak tips" (plant based Beyond Meat brand) with a drizzle of Asian Sesame Ginger marinade and dinner rolls.
For Sunday's dinner: slow cooker Turkey stew with potatoes, turkey cutlet, green beans, carrots, onions; cranberry sauce.
6) The boys in Cymarron took their name from their favorite TV show, the Western Cimarron Strip. What TV show are you currently enjoying? Maybe your fellow Sat9ers would like it, too.
I watch Law and Order: SVU faithfully each Thursday evening because Olivia Benson is my hero; and while doing dishes, cleaning, folding laundry, cooking, I am on season 2 of The Diplomat (netflix) which I am loving!
7) In 1971, when this song was popular, the US Mint introduced the Eisenhower Silver Dollar. Is there any change in your wallet or pocket right now?
definitely not in my pockets and probably a few quarters, dimes, nickels in my wallet
8) Also in 1971, Mattel introduced Malibu Barbie, the doll with a tan. Have you ever used a tanning bed?
Absolutely not. I go for the real thing!
9) Random question – If we were to ask your friends, which of these qualities would they say they like best about you: your warmth, your sense of humor, or your intelligence?
Well, most would say my sense of adventure first followed by my honesty. But from these choices? probably my intelligence.
In fact, one of the friends listed above actually said to me "you're always so adventurous and willing to take a risk". She just told me that last weekend! I guess I am!
HAPPY SATURDAY!
More leaves are waiting to be raked and my hot tea is calling my name.
