Plans

Message for my oldest child, Courtney:

15 years ago this evening, at 8: 11 pm, I pushed out a small, gorgeous, perfectly formed baby girl with rosebud lips. You weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz and were 19 inches long. Long labor but thanks to our Lord, I was rewarded with a drug-free, all-natural childbirth. And your Daddy was a huge help!

Now, 15 years later, we see an emotionally, physically, academically, and spiritually strong young woman! We are proud of all your accomplishments. We remember each and every one: from your perfect attendance records throughout most of your elementary years (and this past year!), to your academic awards, to your placement in the High Honors level, to your placing in the equestrian competition.
Even more importantly: we see your spiritual growth and your leadership skills in the Youth Group. Stay close to the Lord, my precious daughter....He will never leave you nor forsake you! Put Christ first (I know.....we say this alot! that is what parents are for!) and He will guide you on your journey through this life!

We love you Courtney!!!
Have a fun day!

For today: I am making an ice cream cake from scratch! Carvel went out of business in our area so....I am making her one for the party tonite.
After lunch, Courtney and 2 friends will be dropped off at the town pool for an afternoon of swimming while Claire and I do last minute things for the party. My husband will order the pizza for everyone and I'll put the finishing touches on the cake. The gang of girls will eat on the deck and hang out in backyard playing beachball volleyball and board games in the camper. They probably won't fall asleep until well after midnite....won't matter to Dave and I as they will be outside!
Tomorrow brings: croissants, nutella and melon for breakfast on the deck and then I am heading north to hike a wilderness trail to a gorgeous waterfalls. The trail is new to me. My sister and a friend are going with me.
Dave will bring Claire to a birthday party at a local bowling alley for her good church friend, Marissa. Then he is in charge of making dinner and taking the family pass to the pool for an early evening swim. I'll be home early evening.
Sunday will bring our church obligations and a day of rest and family time.

What are your plans for the weekend??
(I'll post the recipe later for the ice cream cake!)

Happy, happy birthday, dear Courtney!

We're headed out geo-caching and a possible swim thrown in as well. I think a blueberry trip is also well overdue. Let's see what actually gets accomplished.

That's awesome Faith. Reminds me of that verse about training a child and he/she will never depart from it. 15 years old and claire sounds like she's reaping the benefits of all your hard work in guiding her. I hope I do as good a job on my daughter.

Daughters scare me because they are so much more vulnerable in this world. Satan has a particular dislike of our gender and tries his best to oppress us so we never reach our full potential.

Thankfully i come from a family of strong women and my Dad was such a great roll model that I always felt like I do anything. So hopefully riley will be fine.

But I hold her in my arms and even tho she's bigger in weight and height then caleb at this age, she looks a lot more delicate and yes vulnerable. I find myself praying constantly over her just as I did with caleb.

Hi Pam: Have a great time geo-caching. We haven't tried that...sounds like tons of fun.

Hi Tali: good to hear from you!
Claire is my 9 yr old but yes...Courtney at 15 is starting to show us some "fruits of our labors"...it is tough for today's girls...I think even tougher than boys in many ways....they have the whole media thing going on with their self-image vs what the Bible says about how we are made and loved by God AND there is alot of pressure to perform well yet also to be a homemaker, church ministry worker, community service...as woemn we have many roles to play. It seems like more than men! BUt....I am trying to teach them, thru my own life, and just prayer, that they need to enjoy this time as children, do their best in school, serve in their various ministries and trust that the Lord would show them, with our guidance, and their giftings, what career path to follow. I also pray for their future mates if the Lord allows that for them! We have a big job as parents don't we??
