A Boycott is called for!

I wasn't gonna be on here today as i have a ton of stuff to do for our vacation trip but.....

A Boycott is called for!

I am appalled at the latest Ben Stiller flick. I like him. Well, I did.

Have you heard about the movie Tropic Thunder?
I probably wouldn't have gone to see it in the theatres anyways as it isn't something I would want to pay $9.50 for. But..I might have considered renting it once it's out on DVD.

We won't be.

If you haven't heard: the movie makes prolific use of the word "re----" (the derogatory word for "mentally challenged", "mentally impaired").
Now, as a person with a career in Special Education.....this totally bugs me.
What is wrong with Hollywood??

Our morning paper is full of articles about this movie and how people are protesting. One local mall had dozens of people, including many people who are mentally challenged, protesting outside the theater and mall.
It is absolutely sickening to me that our teens and young adults (which is the population that the movie is targeted for) would hear this language on the big screen. I mean, swearing is bad enough, but using a word that is so derogatory towards people who are born with an impairment just infuriates me. It is so unnecessary for the plot of a flick.

We (my co-workers, neighbors, church members, relatives, friends) are trying to teach our children that all people, no matter their race, religion, ethnic background or handicapping condition, are created equally in God's eyes. And to have this word in a movie with actors who know better, or should know better.....I have lost all respect for Ben. (never really had it for the other actor, Robert Downy, jr)

argh!!!

SO....help me out...
Don't pay to see this movie!

Protest in any way you can.

Maybe Hollywood will get the idea? (i highly doubt it though. Sad, isn't it?)

You can count me in. And it's too bad because I like Robert Downey Jr. But no way would I ever see this movie.

Even though I am an adult I always like to check out what I want to see at: www.kidsinmind.com.

This helps me decide on what movies would be appropriate to watch as a christian. Whew, they are few and far between that's for sure!

And on another note, it disturbs me greatly how kids use the term re..... in their everyday language. I even overheard it from a young man at church calling his friend that. The young friend said, "I don't appreciate that. I have a cousin that is mentally handicapped. Don't say that again."

Have a great time and I will be praying for safe travel and wonderful weather! Can't wait to see the pics when you get back!

Hugs!

Thanks for letting me know why I saw some proteting for this movie on the news.

Hollywood seems to operate by 'the law of diminishing returns.' They are running out of ways to spellbind the public, so this is reaching into the bottom of the barrel for the ugly things that have yet to be used up.

I predict that it will get worse, (whatever comes out of hollywood)... or even California for that matter, with the leader that Ca has as governor. He seems to support everything anti-family.
