In honor of our last weekend before the start of school begins (at least for those of us in the northeast) I am sharing this poem from a book entitled "I Teach, I Touch the Future" by Garre LaGrone c. 1998.
It expresses what has always been on my heart as a Christian teacher in a non-Christian school.

Prayer in School

The law now states we cannot pray
In our schools in this country today.
It seems to me, very odd
In a nation founded under God.

Who are "they", this radical few
To draw such boundaries around me and you.
For no law can stop compassion and love
From asking guidance from up above.

So each day I'll send, from my desk,
Many silent Heaven bound requests.
And special blessings I will ask
For each student in my class.

My appeal, I'll keep to my self,
And never burden anyone else.
I'll respect our constitutional rule.
But, as long as I teach...
There'll be prayer in school.

Let's keep shining the Light of Jesus in our daily lives....including our schools!

Your students don't know how blessed they are to have you as their teacher. :~D
