More Camping Pics!

More pictures to share of the Camping Vacation, 2008!

(if you click on each pic, it should enlarge)

Here is the new tent that Dave bought the girls. They had been "complaining" about being in the camper so....he went out and bought them a tent. (I think they were secretly wishing we would get a hotel instead!...ah...they are both such princesses! LOL)

Seriously, Courtney took charge in setting this up. She loves anything that requires directions.
She did a great job and they kept it so neat. (now, if they would only keep their bedrooms this neat all the time!) It gave them their own little space. They did a great job! (until Monday nite when they were spooked from that fierce storm so slept in the car).

Courtney took a turn in the hammock
while Claire and Daddy posed for the camera. This was the afternoon of our first day, just after we got all set up. It was such a peaceful campsite. We had neighbors across the road from us who have been camping at Lewey Lake for the last 30 years. They are grandparents and from Queens (NYC). The truck you see in background belonged to the older couple from MA that were camping next to us. There was a site on our left side but it was empty all week! The sites were large with plenty of trees in-between each site....which we love. The roaring brook was just an added bonus.

Doesn't Courtney look peaceful here?
This is at the Indian Lake Scenic Area. I cannot believe our oldest daughter is already 15 years old. She is a trooper. She loves her technology and her friends. For her to be in the wilderness without a cell signal was like a huge sacrifice to her! LOL. She was missing the computer, tv and cell. She said "thank you God for i-pods and car chargers!" Seriously...she was a big help during our camping trip. She should be: she has been camping since she was in the womb! She even hiked somewhat willingly with us (when she found out it was only a 2.2 mile hike AND not a major mountain....little did she know that she would be on a trail with no blazes...we figured it was a good challenge for her.) She ended up enjoying our week although she will not admit that to you. I think it's the age.

Dave and I enjoyed the "scenic view area"
(a place to pull over and take pics) of Indian Lake and the range of mountains that help to make up the Siamese Pond Wilderness Area of the Central Adirondacks. Courtney took this picture. This was our first full day of camping: Sunday, August 17. The sky was overcast as you can see but the temps were warm. It rained on and off for most of the afternoon but it cleared up and got cold by late afternoon and evening. We ended up building a large fire and eating early with......

my sister, Hope, and her husband, Donny. They only live about 35 miles to the south of Lewey Lake (lucky them!!) so they came up for an afternoon visit and dinner, fire, dessert. Hope made a delicious zucchini and summer squash salad. (Hope, I need that recipe!!) It was getting chilly so we told stories around the campfire and played one of our favorite card games called "Moose in the House" (appropriate for all ages AND for the environment in which we were staying!)

Dave allowed Claire to kayak on her own,
although we had been thinking she should wait until age 11 like her big sis. But...this child has no fear. She is a bold one! This was our 2nd full day of camping. (Monday, 8/18) The water on Lewey Lake was choppy due to high winds (a storm was predicted for that night...sure enough it flew in) but..during the afternoon it was sunny, cool and choppy water. The water was too choppy for me to want to go out in it. Claire learned to paddle these sea kayaks at the beach house on Cape Cod so...Dave felt like she was ready.
She flipped once, got right back on and paddled away. Here, Dave is helping her with technique. She and I also enjoyed a paddle together on our last full day of camping and the water was so peaceful there was not a ripple.

I'll have more tomorrow...hopefully you aren't bored yet!
Scroll down to see the first day and to read about the big, bad burn!
