27 September 2008

Here it is Saturday and I am finally sitting at the computer.
My hubby is using the other one, the teen is out at the Youth Center and the preteen is in the shower. Not that you really care about all that!
The weather is strange here in capital region of NYS. This a.m. started out humid, grey and rainy. This afternoon is still humid, temps in 70's, and some sun shone for most of the afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to rain again.

I was stuck home all day with a raging head cold so am using lots of the stuff you see pictured above. My oldest had a cold for first time in a year and hers is just clearing up. Mine just started and it's been 2 years since I had a full-fledged cold. I am praying my little (almost 4 months) niece doesn't get it as I watched her most of last nite. She was here from about 3-midnite without her parents and big sis. (my youngest sister and her family). She was not a happy camper. She definitely knew she was in a strange house, with strange people, no crib, and no mommy's arms. Aunt Faith comforted her but it just wasn't the same!
But...it was interesting to have a newborn in the house again.
And it made me thankful that I am past that stage. At this point in my life, I just get way too tired by evening's end. But...she settled down for me after I swayed back and forth with her in my arms and sang to her. For 25 solid minutes. My little one, the preteen, thought the whole thing was a little over the top. She hasn't been around newborns much. She got a little jealous and actually had to come over to be "cuddled" and hugged after each time I held Mady. So......
my aunt duties are over for the weekend. It was fun but tiring.
So...thanks Jill for loaning Mady to us so you could enjoy watching Emma be a flower girl!

Claire and I are going to watch a flick tonite because I just want to veg out and she is tired from getting up early to dance a group audtion for the xmas show at church. She wants to be in 5 dances. I don't think the director will be putting everyone in all the dances so I told her maybe she will get her top 3 choices. Her solo audition is taking place a different day. Claire wants to watch Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn. I'll probably end up explaining most of the flick to her.
Last nite, my teen and I enjoyed Sense and Sensibility together. She is reading it as supplemental reading for her Honors English Lit class at school. Dave and I figured by seeing the movie first, it would help her to know the characters a bit better. There are lots of characters in that book! Jane Austen. Gotta love her.

AND....at Open House the other nite, I found out from Courtney's Drawing teacher that the class can be a "University in the High School" class for 3 credits!!! So...we enrolled her today at the University's online registration system. (U @ Albany, where I did my grad work). She has some other sophomores in her class and the rest are juniors. The cost is only $100!!! That sure beats the college kids' cost of almost $700! so...of course we signed her up. She just has to maintain a 90% average which I know she will. She is thinking of a career in Graphic Design. We shall see. Do any of you know a good Christian college in the Northeast that offers Art programs??!

So...it has been nice to just stay at home this weekend although tomorrow I'll venture out to church as I don't want to miss our Missions conference. We are having the son of the pilot missionary who was featured in the movie "End of the Spear" speak at church tomorrow. It should be exciting to hear what he has to say. Of course I'll need to bring plenty of kleenex with me.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

If you have children still living at home, scroll down to check out the post "Children and Chores" and give me your ideas!
