Backpack Safety America Month Millions of America’s school-aged children are suffering from the pain of overloaded backpacks. Make sure your kids are toting bags that are safe for their growing bodies.
LLBean sells various backpacks based on a child's age.
My preteen ("tween") daughter, Claire (age 9 1/2) uses an LLBean pack for when she has more than 1 textbook to carry back to school. This year, her main pack is a knock-off Vera Bradley bag in pink/green pattern. It is cloth, machine washable and has a zipper top. Plenty of small pockets on the inside to hold her sunglasses, small compact umbrella, housekey, and kleenex. The outside also has 2 little pockets to hold her lip balm, gloss (don't all 4th grade girls carry clear gloss??!)I bought it at CVS for only $17.99!!
My teen daughter carries either her cloth American Eagle bag, a black messenger bag (I used to use it when teaching full time to tote my IEP's, etc.), or her Vera Bradley tote bag. She used 2 different LLBean bags throughout elementary school.
Find out what your child's style is. If you have younger children, LLBean makes a wonderful "first" backpack. It got my girls organized from K-3rd grade.
Make sure there are no dangling strings or keychains. Label all items.
Coming soon: thoughts on daily devotions and why the traditional method isn't always best.
