Friday Fave Five #3

I cannot believe it's Friday again! Had a great start to the school year, although am feeling pretty tired. This will be a weekend to relax and get back into our routine of chores, church and family time. Here are 5 favorite things:

  1. This snack! These soy nuts are so good! They come lightly salted or unsalted as shown here. I prefer the unsalted. They are a more nutritious option than regular nuts or chips. They are lower in fat than granola bars and they contain the health benefits of soy!

2. Iced Coffee: since we are back to school/work, I have less time in the a.m. to enjoy my 3 cups of steaming hot coffee on the deck. My husband only drinks 1 mug each a.m. I make enough for 8 mugs of coffee. I really only have time for 1 mug of coffee with breakfast, another half a mug after showering, and then half a travel mug while on the way to work. So...with the mug that is left over, I have been making iced coffee the last couple of afternoons because it has been hazy, hot and humid here all week. SO....I crush some ice, add the coffee, pour a bit of skim milk, add 2 teaspoons of sugar and voila! An instant, cold drink to sip while starting my housework! And...I'm not wasting the coffee!

3. Chatting with Courtney: ok, this really is one of my favorite things to do lately. She is so full of life and joy about high school, her friends, and most importantly, the youth group. She wanted to chat with me yesterday after school about her new teachers and their demands, her friends, their lunch hour, etc. I treasure my time with her after school (20 min before her sister gets home) because I know that in the next year, she will be looking at colleges and then in 2 years, she will be enrolled in one somewhere. Age 15 is turning out to be a bit easier to cope with than age 14 was!

4. Reading with Claire: This is a favorite thing for she and I to do together. I believe in reading aloud to my children every nite before bed while they are little. I read to Courtney from infancy through the 5th grade (Daddy would read every other nite...we took turns). Now we read some of the same books! I have read with Claire from toddler days and I still read to her every nite. Sometimes Daddy takes a turn but usually it is me. Lately, we have been reading The Fledgling which is a tough read. She has good listening skills but the words in there are difficult (comprehension). Last nite we came across the word "vouchsafed". HUH?? I had read it before but couldn't remember what it means. It was fun to guess the meaning from the context of the story and then look it up in the dictionary (we were pretty close to the meaning). And No, I'm not gonna give ya the definition...go look it up! It is just so much fun to read with my youngest; it's one of my favorite parts of our evening routine.

5. Leeland. He is a remarkable musician/evangelist. We now own both of his CD's. His music is just phenomenal. The 1st CD is Sound of Melodies and his latest is Opposite Way. There are some deep, soul-searchin' songs on there. My absolute fave right now is "Like a Thief in the Night". It is awesome.

Ok...there ya have it!
If you wanna join in on this fun....go to Susanne's place and join in.

Fun reading your faves from the last week! I'm with you on the iced coffee, chatting with your girl & reading to your girl(but of course in my case it would be my girls. LOL). I've never heard Leeland. I'll have to check him out.

Wow, you make my maybe-half-a-cup-per-week coffee "habit" seem nonexistent by comparison! Happy weekend!
