The Best is Yet to Come

Solid Rock

Rebuilding. Repairing. Restoring.

I have plans for my house. It is almost 15 years old and it needs some repairs done. We've upgraded the kitchen, 1 bathroom, and 2 bedrooms.
We have upgraded to better quality furniture and appliances (when needed). We've added a shed, a deck, a trellis, a garden, some plants. We've finished the basement (3/4 of it). We have upgraded and added little storage areas.
BUT....it is a constant process.
When one is a home owner, there is always something that needs to be repaired, rebuilt or restored.
Kind of like our spiritual walk.
We are on a journey.
It's called life.

And we make our plans.
And in life we often need to rebuild stuff.
We might need to be "repaired" (and I'm not talking about a tummy tuck!)
We definitely need to be restored.

I like how God says in the book of Amos that He will rebuild and restore from the destruction He allowed. (Amos 9)
I like this verse "....I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old." (11b) The best was yet to come for the Israelites.

Now...I don't necessarily want to go back to "the days of old".
I don't like living in the past nor do I like trying to predict the future.

But in this present we need to hold onto Hope.
Hope that the best is yet to come....that God is doing a work in us to repair, rebuild and restore us. He knows what is best for us. Just like my husband and I know what is best for our house. And when.

We are never going to be perfect. Just like my house is never going to be perfect. Stuff happens. Life happens.
But...we have a future and a hope in Christ.
We know that if and when we are surrounded by trials and tears, that He can restore our soul.

Like the old hymn says "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.....I wholly lean on Jesus' name"

Currently I am looking (introspectively) at something that has destroyed me (spiritually speaking) in the past. It crops up from time to time. To try and destroy me. To destroy my faith and my walk with God.

I can keep hanging on to it and become bitter.
OR....I can repair it (by laying it at the foot of the Cross).

I can allow the Redeemer to restore my soul.
Because the best is yet to come.

note: the pic above was taken from a photo gallery I found online of Acadia National Park. A great place for some rest, relaxation and restoration!

Hi Faith,
I just stopped over from Kimberly's at The Planting of the Lord and I am glad I did. I loved this post. Yes, our Redeemer will restore us completely if we look to Him to do so. Amen! What a promise!

Have fun on your great vacation. I went to Acadia years ago when my family travelled back east for a couple weeks. That was one of the most wonderful vacations I've had.

Lobster and corn on the cob for $5.00 (in 1979 remember), I think there was a site on Mt Desert called Thunder Hole too. Now that was cool.

Sorry I just went on & on. I came here via another site and your Acadia vacation caught my eye. The pictures reminded me of the beauty.

Have fun,

What a great devotional, Faith! I love the analogy. God is so good to repair, rebuild and restore us in our different times in our walk with him. Sometimes it's not easy. That repairing and rebuilding is darn right hard work! But He always restores if we allow Him too! Thanks for the reminder!

A cottage? How nice that will be. There is some real natural beauty there and your close enough to it to go on a nice vacation.

So your daughter is a ballerina? I enjoyed the pictures. Her costume is beautiful.

Have nice vacation
