Am reading through another major prophet in the OT. This month I am on Jeremiah. Some verses jumped out at me the other day. I have been meditating on them for a couple of days now and this is what I've learned:
Jeremiah 17: 7 & 8 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters......and will not be anxious......"
Here in the capital region of NYS, we have had a rather wet summer. At least compared to the last few years. My plants are water-logged and my potted flowers are not doing as well this year. But my wildflowers are growing profusely as are our maple trees in the back part of our backyard. My lilac bushes are soaking up all that rain and thriving. I noticed this in Acadia National Park as well, where that area of Maine has also had alot of rain this season......the trees that grow along the streams are so vibrant and green. It is because they have their roots planted by the water.
We are like this, you know. If we are planted in Jesus....accepting the life-giving power He offers, we will thrive. If we aren't rooted in Him, we will dry up!
I have experienced a taste of that this summer. I have had trouble trusting God for something and it is making my heart feel "dry". I am still in the Word....but....unless I am fully trusting Him and placing my Hope in Him, I am gonna have this dry season.
If we put our trust and hope in Christ, even when facing some difficulties or struggles, we WILL be blessed (joyful). And in that, we can bear fruit for others to grow.
So...I can remain close to the Source of the Living Water, soak it up and keep hoping and trusting...and I will have that Life I desire.
What are you soaking up today?
Is it the Living Water of God??
