Hard....but Good....

In my Bible this week I have been finishing up the Psalms.....while in Psalm 143 this verse struck me as quite an important one...and it was confirmed when I turned the page and saw a devotional written by Sheila Walsh about this very verse!

"Cause me to hear Your Lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You." v. 8

She writes: "life is hard and God is good. We carry this paradox into every day. So how do we strengthen our faith when it seems at times as if God allows heartache to slip in the back door?"

She goes on to say that first thing in the morning we are the ones who get to choose what gets into our hearts. Will it be the culture of today's world? Or will we bathe our heart and soul in God's Word?

I ask: Which one do you think is going to help us walk the hard path God sometimes brings into our lives?

My thoughts on this were that by allowing worldy thoughts, or our flesh, or Satan, to invade our minds first thing in the morning, is just going to chip away at our faith. So many times I have put the coffee on and then walked out to get the newspaper only to read of all the horror that goes on in this world. How much better to turn to the Scriptures, or a devotional, first thing in the a.m.??

I struggle with this sometimes since I only have a short amount of time to get ready for work. But I am learning that if I only read part of a chapter or even just a short psalm, it fills my soul with the good.....and that is so important for setting the tone of our day.

Yes, life is hard. Jesus never promised us it would be easy. We all know this.

Yet, we don't need to be anxious if we are truly putting our trust in Him.

Yes, there will be circumstances that arise that may cause fear, or anxiety, or stress. This is just life.

It is how we respond to it.....are we first giving it (the feelings) to God and letting Him carry it for us? If we are, then we can have the peace that passes all understanding.
If we turn to His Word, we are building a firm foundation of what is true...eternal truths....and we will learn that God is faithful. Always.

And.....we will know a good God.

Even when life is hard.

I have been blessed this last month with about 10-15 extra minutes some mornings before kids start arriving and God has been laying on my heart to turn off that morning show and spend it in the word and just laying my day before Him. What a difference. My whole attitude on facing the day is changing. I still need to work on keeping my trust in Him throughout the day but I find I am going to Him quicker throughout the day and keeping His word in my mind more throughout the day.
