Random Dozen

Today is the day we play the Random Dozen hosted by Linda, er, Lidna, from 2nd Cup of Coffee.  Whenever I am feeling down or just need a good laugh, I head over to her blog...she has a great sense of humor and always makes me smile!  Thanks, Linda for hosting this each week.....

1. If you could compete in one Olympic event (not necessarily winter sports) what would it be?

um...am not super athletic and the sports I do enjoy and am somewhat competent at are kayaking and hiking, neither of which are in the Olympics to my knowledge so.....let's assume I am athletically gifted:  it would be figure skating or Equestrian

2. Do you remember a specific Olympic moment from the past?

I remember having this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach the year that the Olympics were down in Atlanta, Georgia.  I said to my husband, as we watched the opening ceremony, that I was feeling like there was going to be some kind of catastrophe.....and....that was the year people were killed in the bombing.  Don't know if that was a nudge from God to pray but....it is very clear in my memory.

3. Have you ever known anyone who competed in the Olympics?

not personally but we have had several Capital Regions NY-er's in past games and currently in this season.  There is a speed skater from the town about 10 miles north of me and several luge players  I believe from the High Peaks area of the ADKs.  I believe one of them is a girl who is from a town near where we have camped!

4. If everyday activities were Olympic-worthy, which activity would you have a gold medal in?

Laundry

5. Do you know anything about your ethnic heritage?

yes...that most Americans are vulgar when they visit the country from which my ancestors are from (France) which in turn is probably why the French do not like us!  I have already warned my family that when we are in Paris, we are NOT going to be rude Americans!

6. Do you enjoy sleeping late?

Absolutely. Don't get to do it much, however!

7. Have you ever performed CPR on anyone? Do you know how? (Yes, that's two, I know. Whatevs.)

No, thankfully.  I have had to do the Heimlich maneuver on a special needs student, though.  Yes, I have to know CPR for my teaching job.

 8. Name one country you'd like to visit and explain why.

Other than France, which we are finally visiting in April, I would choose Holland/The Netherlands.  I am also part Dutch and I love tulips...have always wanted to take the biking tours that the area offers to view the gorgeous fields of flowers and tour the little villages.

9. Have you ever fixed up a couple romantically?

I tired. it failed. 'nouf said!

10. What is the last book you read?

Firefly Lane by Kirsten Hannah.  It was excellent...all about friendships.  Secular fiction.  I also just finished Healing Hearts, a Christian study for women.  A very good book about forgiving people who have wronged you and getting to the root issues of past hurts, etc. and letting God fully transform your heart

11. Do you enjoy sleeping late? NO, YOU write the question! How's that for random??
ok, Lidna.....here's my question:  What is your favorite part of the day on a weekend, and why?

my answer:  Early morning on  Saturdays:  because everyone else in the family is sleeping.  I like getting my steaming mug of coffee and a good book and curling up on the family room couch to watch the birds at the feeder and read in peace!  It is also a great time for me to have 'quiet time" with the Lord.

12. What is your favorite meal in your favorite restaurant?

I have several! I guess if I only could choose one, it would be the turkey club croissant with a side of potato salad from The Windmill, located in the teeny town of Perth, in the southern Adirondacks.  Truly my fave eating establishment!  It's even more fun after a day of hiking!

That was fun...now....my husband wants to me critique his attempt at a novella....science fiction. NOT one of my fave genres...but...the things we do for love!!

Paris..sigh...have a wonderful trip. I've spent lots of time in France... not as friendly in Paris but out in the countryside we've met wonderful people. I still love Paris : )

My laundry would never be done long enough for me to get up on the medal podium. :)

Will check out Firefly Lane. Always looking for book recommendations.

I like Friday nights. You feel like you get a reprieve from the to-do list a little.

I am taking blog reading breaks while editing my son's short novel. Not my fave task either, but the things a mother will do. :) I'm just impressed that he wrote a book. The least I can do is give it a once over.

They do have kayaking in the summer olympics but it's whitewater!

I think I'd answer your question in exactly the same way. Love Saturday mornings.

Susanne: yikes...I don't do whitewater kayaking. not yet anyways....i know my hubby would love it but I'm not a strong enough swimmer!

Angie: now that I havea teenager, she does help with my laundry I must say. but I have been known to really crank it out..especially between camping trips :)

i'd get kicked off the podium for not cleaning quickly enough..especially my floors

my hubby worked the 96 games and had just gotten home from olympic park duty when we heard about the bomb...so close, too close. I was on edge the whole rest of the time he worked them.
