I really cannot believe it is Friday...this week just flew by....some great moments and some difficult ones (had to report a case of physical abuse regarding one of the little autistic boys I teach.....just so darn sad!)....
so...here we gather to share the 5 things/ways God has blessed us with during this past week: all thanks to Susanne from over here for hosting this....she is a special lady! If you have never been to her site, head on over...you will be blessed!
Here is what tops my Faves this week:
These books I am currently reading/studying. The little magazine, on top of the study book, comes in the mail every couple of months...I have no idea who bought the subscription for me, but it has been a true blessing. It's just packed with all kinds of Biblical truth, tidbits for our daily walk, and devotionals.
I love to read, and although we had something every night of the week except Monday and tonite,(school events!) I was able to find chunks of time, between loads of laundry and bill- paying to sit on the deck, grab a book, and drink one of these:
iced tea with wedges of lime!Definitely a fave of mine after an afternoon of running errands and then yard work (we do our own lawn, typically). Yesterday was about 75 when I mowed and this ice cold glass really hit the spot. My youngest daughter likes the fact that I save pasta sauce jars, clean them out in dishwasher after removing the labels and use them for iced tea, lemonade and iced water. AND...it is a great way to reduce, reuse and recycle!! When serving friends at lunch, I like to tie a pretty ribbon around the bottom of the rim or in the middle.....really spiffs them up!
Watching my youngest, 11-year-old Claire, play in the backyard. Here she is yesterday at about 4:30 pm after her homework was done, followed by a long day at a retreat center for gifted writers...she was chosen to attend, along with several other 4th-6th graders from our school district. It was fun to watch her having fun and relaxing after a long day of writing!
This vinaigrette. It is delicious and has a bit of a "zing" to it. It is similar to dressing you might find with Asian foods. I use it for a light spinach salad and last evening I used it as a marinade for grilled pork chops. YUMMY! My favorite way to have it is drizzled over fresh baby spinach, sliced European cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, and a bit of sliced red onion.
Afternoon phone calls!
From friends!
(see the post below to find out why this would make me excited this week
and be included in my Fave Fives!)
Most of my close friends know I arrive home from the classroom at about 1 pm most days. It is really the best time for me to talk on the phone....before I start my "2nd shift" as I call mothering my children and managing my home/hubby!
My dear friend L called me this week and we ended up having a wonderful, edifying conversation. We ended the conversation in prayer and it was just a blessing!
My other close friend, E, is the same way. She is always ready to lend an ear, and I am always willing to hear her stuff. It is a true blessing to encourage each other in the things of God and just "be there" for each other.
AND....the best thing about the cell phone this week: (mine is the green one shown above): a friend whom I have done a bit of "peer counseling" with as she struggles through a serious issue (she also sees a licensed Christian therapist), made some positive breakthroughs this week, with the help of the Lord guiding her! Some relationships for her have been restored...GOD IS GOOD...see the post below to read more about this praise report!
So that's about it for me...As a family we enjoyed Ice Cream Social Night on the School District Budget Vote evening. Claire had to waitress at this event as it is part of their fundraiser for next year's 6th grade field trip to Boston! We also enjoyed attending her 5th/6th grade Spring Concert which featured the Orchestra, Chorus, and Band. Courtney attended her life::group (small group Bible study) and I enjoyed listening to her tell me all about it. I praise God for spiritual growth in my teen!
Tonite is a bonfire in our backyard with downtime for all of us......and hopefully this weekend Courtney and I will have success in finding the perfect prom shoes!
What are your favorites from the week? Let me know!!

Love, love, love that Randy Alcorn book, as you know.
We've had a few hot days thus far, but I haven't thought about making sun iced tea... I should!
I'm so pleased you've found some healing and restoration relationally. PTL!!!
Enjoy your weekend. :~D
e-mom: to clarify: it was actually the woman I've been peer counseling who received the emotional healing but....through it all, it brought us closer as we had this connection from our past...I'll email you about it....since you know some of the story....
yes..the Heaven book is awesome!!
It's tough when you have to report an abusive situation isn't it? I remember a few cases from my teacher days. Very difficult.
But still, you've had a very full and rich week! Glad you had some time to read and savour your iced tea. And congratulations to your girl on being chosen to attend that writing workshop!
Happy weekend!
I never thought to put lime in iced tea. Love how you use the jars. That is a great idea!
Claire on the swing set brought me back to my growing up years. I played on our swing set all the time.
I had a mandarin/lime vinegarette on my fives last week. I really like it too.
Wow, I never thought of having iced tea with lime wedges. I'm really into lime so I'm definitely going to try that. I'm so glad to hear some of your friend's relationships have been restored...God is good! And I'm sooo going to have to try that vinaigrette. :-)
Forgot to say, following you now - hope that's okay! Your blog is awesome. :-)
Thanks, Christine...I'll be back to yours too! I really enjoyed looking around...Blessings to you!!
