October Fave Fives 1

OCTOBER!!

One of my fave months of the year....and today we post about our five fave things from the last week.
I so much enjoy looking back over the week and posting the ways that God has blessed me or my family.
A huge "THANK YOU" to Susanne for hosting this for us each week.  If you like books, check out Susanne's site here, because she is always listing great books on her side bar.  I have enjoyed getting to know her through the blog and someday we'll meet in heaven!

My faves this week are:
Faith having quiet time

  • My new hair cut.  It's still a bob but it is about 3 inches shorter and layered in back and on sides.  My hair is super thick and heavy so growing it out is very difficult.  I get to a certain stage and it just looks too bulky...it's been years since I've successfully gotten it past my neck!  I was having some quiet time, trying to work my way through Heaven when my teen came home and said she'd take my pic!  It is rare that she finds me on my bed in the middle of the afternoon but I was soooo sore because of fave #2 which is:

  • Starting the Shred!  Now, I am NOT trying to lose 20 lbs.  I do wanna lose about 5-8 lbs though as I put about that much on and it's mostly that "peri-menopausal middle"....ugh...so...I am feeling great in the legs because I do lots of power-walking, biking, and hiking. BUT...I am.so.sore.in.the shoulders.  So..Tuesday after work and grocery shopping, I plopped onto my bed to read a bit before the 2nd shift started!

School Spirit Day/Homecoming Parade Day
Sept 2010
  • Homecoming!  This was my teenager's last high school Homecoming parade, football game, and Dance.  She designed her own School Spirit Day outfit in our school's colors.  The students were allowed to dress wacky on Friday.  She was in the parade that evening, marching for LIFE club, and stayed for the game.  The football team won!  Our high school this year has a new coach and we are now 4-0!!  We usually have a very poor record so the seniors, especially, were most excited!!  She went to the Dance on Saturday night,  and had a blast.....a very bittersweet weekend, for sure!

The Pinebush Forest Preserve
Albany, NY

  • Hiking on Sunday with my man! With the start of school, I put on our calender, a "date day" for Dave and I.  I decided, with his agreement, that the last Sunday of the month was gonna be "our day" (or evening, depending on the event).  He chose hiking in the preserve.  We are fortunate that Albany, our state capital, has a variety of interesting things to do and see.  The Pinebush Preserve is one of them and they have added some new trails in there that we had never been on.  We used to take our oldest daughter several times a month when she was into keeping a "nature journal" as a preschooler.  Dave says he prefers this kind of easy hiking (a stroll in the woods) to my kind which is mountain hiking.  We really had a wonderful day...we felt refreshed, recharged and restored to begin a new work week!

New Candle!  I bought a new fragrance, on sale at BB&Beyond and I LOVE it.  I didn't burn many of the summer fragrances this past summer because most of them either Claire, Dave, or I were allergic to.  But...I think I found one that none of us have problems with!  I have it on a kitchen shelf and it really makes the whole downstairs smell like the outdoors in autumn.....it's sort of a mix of crunchy leaves, cinnamon, apple, and spice....with a woodsy undertone....I just love it.....it's great in the evenings when we are all busy reading or practicing violin.  I have a feeling I'll be buying more of this scent!

That's it for moi!

Will be off of here for almost the entire weekend.....I have my Moms in Touch meeting this afternoon after work and then I have out of state relatives coming for a weekend visit so tonite involves baking and getting to bed early...taking the girls to Vermont for a quick trip before their great-aunt and uncle arrive for dinner!  They leave on Monday morning so I have a full weekend....but...glory to God....it's AUTUMN!!!!!

for now....ENJOY THE FIRST WEEKEND OF OCTOBER!!

I love that candle scent and really would like to get one. Unfortunately the only place that I knew of that had Yankee candles for sale here was Linen's n Things and they are no more. :v( I'll have to ask my oldest daughter if they have them somewhere in her city.

Courtney looks cute. LOL. I remember those days.

Sounds like a wonderful date night. We're looking low expense dates too and we both love to walk so we'll be exploring more of the trails around here!

I was going to say I like the haircut before I read the point. Looks great, Faith.

Geez I hear ya on the peri-menopause middle...I keep asking myself how did "THAT" get there!! :)
Good for you for working so hard that you are sore!! :) Whenever I am sore I keep telling myself that is a GOOD thing, it means I worked hard!!

Love the picture of Courtney for Spirit day! :) She looks great!
Enjoy your fall weekend! :)

I've been burning my autumn scent candle. I also have to be careful about scents as they can make my asthma act up.

Congrats on your exercising. I've been hearing quite a bit about this Shred program.

I love it when a haircut is right. I would also count that as a blessing.

Faith, I can smell that candle... mmmmm.

I think your new hair style is darling! Very cute. My hair has always been very thick too...

Well, I'm not going to try The Shred--just yet. I admire you! I'm walking every day to get fit enough to join Jazzercise again. I've been out a year or two during the empty nest transition. Time to get back to it!

My FFF is up, when you get a chance.

Enjoy your weekend. ღ

We had similar posts this week. I'm newly introduced to Julian and once I take her off the shelf I'll pop in the cd.

This candles sounds like all you want for Autumn.

And the new hair cut it must be the week for it.

I like your new haircut! My hair is thick and heavy, too; I just let it grow long and wear it in a ponytail. LOL

The candle scent sounds wonderful!

Keep up the exercise routine! I know what you mean about the perimenopause thing, too. :)

I miss Moms In Touch! It's a great way to connect with the other moms and PRAY!

My dd has mentioned Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I think I'll check it out. I did such a hard workout on Thursday afternoon with my workout group that I'm STILL hobbling around on sore legs.

Enjoy your weekend! I hope you have a chance to do some hiking.
