Don't Forget!

Hopefully you can see the "Family Circus" comic strip print enough to read it on your own.

This was in the Albany Times-Union, our newspaper, today and I thought it was most excellent of any Christmas comics I've seen recently.  Basically, the mom is out with her children and they see various commercial signs like "don't forget the wrapping paper" (and candy, etc). They then pass a Nativity and the sign says "Don't forget".

So easy to do in this materialistic society of ours, isn't it?

My family is celebrating our 5th Christmas in our community church.  We have been amazingly blessed beyond belief these last 5 years.  Our pastor is currently preaching a sermon series entitled "Christmas Surprises" and parts 1-3 have been titled His Parents, His Birth, His Witnesses.  I can't wait to find out what Part 4 is going to be the day after Christmas.  The things that have most stood out to me are the following main ideas from each sermon:
  1. "God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things, if we'll just be submissive and dependent upon Him."  (Pastor R. Keener)
  2. "God usually does dramatic things in undramatic ways."  (Pastor Keener)
  3. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways," declares the Lord, "for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts."  Isaiah 55: 8&9
  4. "God's best witnesses are usually common people with a testimony, not paid professionals with an argument."  (Pastor Keener)
Ordinary people.
Extraordinary events.

Don't forget........

I love all those quotes. I often think of Mary at this time of year, marvelling at her bravery for submitting to the call that God placed on her, just an ordinary young girl from a small village.

Family Circus always was and still is my favorite cartoon.

I agree that we have to remember who the focus should be on at Christmas. I think it's so sad that there are people who don't want to acknowledge Christmas and who don't want to give others the right to even say Christmas or display Christmas at this time of year.

Hi Susanne: are we still doing the FFF this week? and yes..I think of Mary too, just a teen mom....an ordinary person who would have been stoned to death if not for the angel appearing to Joseph! God's plan....amazing!
Hi Rosie: Merry Christmas! Yes...it IS sad that the world doesn't really get the true meaning....this is why we need to be light in the dark :)
