Can you believe we are halfway through the month of January?
And I definitely can't believe it's the end of the work week already.....and time to sit and reflect on the 5 favorite blessings from God that He bestowed on us this week. Join us over at Susanne's for the Friday Fave Fives!

- A 4-DAY WEEKEND! yup...you read that correctly. Not only did we have Monday off due to honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. but we awoke to NO SCHOOL on Tuesday due to sleet, snow and freezing rain. Ugh...NOT a fave with me...but...I stayed inside all day with the girls and just basically did nothing. My housework was caught up so I was able to get lots of reading done, some baking done, and just talking and laughing with my daughters. Which is always a fave!
- THE LATEST 10TH AVENUE NORTH CD. My oldest daughter got this at EXCEL....a huge Youth for Christ conference that she attended last weekend. I was so happy that she spent her money on good stuff this year. She uploaded it to her iPod and then gave me the cd for my car. I'll load it onto my iPod too as I really enjoy their music and this cd is particularly good.....I like to work out to music! The songs on here are especially well done.
- TIME TO READ! I did lots of reading as we were pretty much indoors most of the weekend and beginning part of this week. I don't watch much television other than 2 fave shows during the week. I am reading 3 good books right now (listed on my side bar) plus my Chronological Bible and Small Group study book. I love to read and having long chunks of time to just curl up with a mug of steaming coffee or tea and a fleece blanket is my fave way to pass the long winter afternoons/evenings.

- OLD PHOTOS! I started browsing through a box of old photos from "before digital camera days" and then started going through all the ones on our old computer. Why?? To find ones of my oldest for her graduation party...yes...I am already thinking ahead to June and July. I have had so much fun this week looking back and reminiscing with her. She had just had braces put on her teeth about 12 months before this pic was taken.....and here she is today.....

- PSALM 34! Whenever I am feeling a bit tired and overwhelmed by the housework, or the childrens' activities, or my teaching job, I just turn to the Psalms. I think of it as "yoga for my soul". Yoga is a form of working out that I enjoy when I do it with my Wii Fit program. Although I don't like the Eastern religious aspects of yoga and am thankful the Wii Fit doesn't get into that side of it, I do like the benefits of a tighter core in my body, better balance to my body and posture, and the general calmness it evokes. So are the Psalms to me, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. They bring a balance to my day, they "tighten" me spiritually by helping me to remember Who is in charge of my world/life, and most of my favorite ones bring a total sense of peace to my soul. A calm......here is my fave portion of Psalm 34:
"Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His Name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears......Oh! Taste, and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!"
I'm posting early this week...it's Thursday afternoon......my youngest and hubby have Jr High Youth Group tonite, and my oldest has mid terms to study for......and I have my small group of mom friends to lead here in my home. Tomorrow I have errands right after work so......I'll say "HAPPY WEEKEND" for now.....
I hope you have a blessed one and that you take the time to reflect on at least five things that you call your faves.....link up at Susanne's or just leave me a comment! :)
COMING UP SOON: ways to say "I LOVE YOU" to your children through out the month of February that don't involve spending lots of money....and yummy recipes for quick dinners and delicious, simple desserts.......

Lovely post. From your blog, I get the feeling that you are a very busy, talented, and blessed lady with a happy home. I found you through your kind comment on my blog this week. Thanks for stopping by, and I'm glad I have now found yours!
This is a wonderful post! Sounds like you have had a lovely week :) We recently went through lots of old photos in preparation for our son's 18th birthday party at the beginning of the year. It's so good looking back through the memories. Happy Weekend to you too!
Like you, I turn to the Psalms when I'm feeling sad or overwhelmed. And also like you, I'm a fan of that Tenth Avenue North CD!
It's fun to look through old photos. Do you have to get Courtney's approval before you use the pictures? My son can be very picky about who sees which pictures of him. :)
YAY! For days off from school!! Your daughter is beautiful! Crazy how fast they grow!!
Again I love books! A lot have wrote about books today!
Your photos prove that you have a very artistic eye! Very encouraging blog! Thank you for sharing.
I love reading too and especially in my bed. I couldn't fall asleep without reading first. But I could never read several books at one time, as I am living in the story of one book until I have finished it and then start the next.
Psalm 34 is one of my great favorite psalms and I memorized it a couple years ago - thanks for remdining me - it's getting a little rusty and I need to work on it. I agree with you about yoga and love how you put it, the psalms tighten up our spiritual core like yoga does for our bodies.
It's fun going through old pictures! And I also have to agree, there's nothing like curling up with a good book, warm cup and blanket to pass the winter days.
Love popping in here to red about your family doings... reminds me of my active parenting days with great fondness.
I get to take our son to the oral surgeon on Monday (wisdom teeth extraction). Looking forward to doing a little nurturing for a few hours once more... ((Hugs))
How nice to have an uexpected day off when all your work is done!
Reading is one of my favorite things to do, as well.
I like your comaparison of the Psalms to Yoga.
Oh I remember the days off of school when the kids were young we called them snow days, one year it was 27 of them we counted. I guess it is a good idea to stay ahead of things getting ready for graduation now, besides if your like I am, I know how much fun you had going through old photos.
Reading PSALMS for the soul, good comparison it is to yoga.
I just read Ps 34 this afternoon! yes, it's a wonderful one.
I'm glad you had extra days off for just snuggling under the blanket and reading.
Look at all the snow you've got too! We're in for a week of temperatures above freezing so our is on the way to a good melt but it sure has made the roads icy as it still freezes at night.
Kids grow so fast don't they? I love looking at old photos. We don't do the open houses here for graduation.
