Book Review #4 for Spring Reading

Well, I've now completed 4 books from my Spring Thing Reading List....and one of them was a non-fiction Christian book...whoo hoo!  For those of you who know me best, you know I am a slow reader of Christian non-fiction....actually, of any non-fiction.  Usually it's because I find that most of it plods along....but some of it is so good and full of "meat" to chew on that I take my time, highlight important points, journal about what I'm reading, or just savor it or follow certain things up with Scriptures or added reading material.
This book, pictured above, however is strictly fiction.  And whoa.....what a book!

This is the 2nd book in the Millennium series by Stieg Larsson, from Sweden.

Again, it is fiction, set in about 2005.  It is about 2 years later from the first novel in the series. And like the first novel, it was a slow start.  But once the story got going, it was exciting.  For the most part.  The beginning dealt with math.  Higher level math.  Of which my husband and daughters enjoy. I do not do math. Anything above basic arithematic makes my eyes glaze over!  The math is not super important to the plot until the very end.  I won't ruin it for you but let's just say the author does a good job of foreshadowing........apparently the 3rd book in the series will take off right where this 2nd book ends.

Basically, Lisbeth is on the run......various government authorities believe she has committed murder.  3 times in one evening.  Did she?? You will find out.....
and the Millennium staff might be facing some changes.....

and of course we find out just who Zalachenko is...and the blond giant. (I was proud of my self for figuring out who Zala is (a.k.a. Zalachenko).

and of course we are left wondering if things will resolve for Lisbeth.....

It is gripping. Again, it is slow in the beginning but I was drawn into the story a bit sooner than in book 1.  The main characters are the same of course and a couple of them get more developed by the author in this book.  As usual, there area couple of sub-plots going on but they do all connect.

And this author seems to have the style of plodding in the beginning, getting to the main plot by the middle and yet towards the end of the book, the action finally takes off and I am left feeling like the author is rushing through all the various angles the plot has taken and it finally comes to a breathtaking finish. This seems to be his style.  The end of the book feels so rushed to me.....and yet....I am left wondering just where is he gonna go with this in book 3?  and you guessed correctly:  I will definitely read the ending of this series.

For now, I am taking a break from graphic, dark and sinister fiction with espionage and government fraud and opening the award winning novel:  Little Bee by Chris Cleave.  My teenager received this as a Xmas gift from us and she loved it.  That will be my next review unless I finish One Thousand Gifts first!

How are you doing on your spring thing reading list?

If you aren't participating in that, are you reading??  what books are you currently enjoying?

I have finished 5 1/2 of my books. The last one was really, really good. I'm surprised that I've already finished 3 non-fictions for this challenge. And one of the ones I'm reading right now is also non-fiction. That is more non-fiction than I usually read in a year. I'm not so good with it either.

Are you going to watch the movies after you finish the series?

Hi Susanne....not sure about the movie...certainly not while my youngest is in the house...I cannot IMAGINE how Hollywood dealt with the plots...very graphic and disturbing in many ways...but still a good read!
