Being Used

Ceramic Plates in Kitchen at Hammond Castle
French on top,
Chinese and English on bottom

These ceramic plates are so pretty, aren't they??

I think so, anyway.  I noticed this display in Hammond Castle when we toured there a couple of weekends ago and I immediately took a picture.  (unfortunately, the first French plate came out with a glare as the sun was just streaming in the window behind me and it was hard to get a great shot. This one was the best of the bunch.).

When I was going through pictures to display here on the blog and on my Facebook account, I realized how sad it is that they are so pretty but unused. Well, people enjoy them by touring the castle, yet they remain unused on a shelf....so they really aren't practical are they? Now, they may have been used back after the castle was built and the Hammonds were happily ensconced as newlyweds in their new home.  But...they are now on display......and so pretty to look at, but soooooo not used.

And I thought about some of our own dear treasures.  Particularly, one.  The Bible.  Does it sit on your coffee table looking all new and perfect??  Do you only pick it up to dust it off when company comes?

I have some "coffee table" style books like that.  They are art and travel books or books about a different culture (currently I have an Amish Children one and several Boston/Red Sox and Norman Rockwell Art ones) on display in a pretty, green wooden basket that my dear friend Cheryl gave me.  And, for the most part, other than when I first acquired them, they just sit in the basket looking pretty.

And what about our giftings??  We all have giftings from the Lord.  Treasures!!  Treasures to be used.....

are we using them??  or are they sitting lying dormant within us??  Can they help someone become a better follower of Christ??  Can you encourage someone with them?  Can you intercede for someone in prayer?

Whatever your giftings are, please use them!

  BE USED!!

A good word, Faith. I'm guessing that your Bible gets regular use. As does mine. (Well, the online Bible Gateway version gets used more, I admit.)

Those plates are so pretty! I'm still trying to sell my Mom's English bone china...a pretty floral pattern. My tastes lean more toward the contemporary these days. Want it? (LOL)

So true isn't it? Sometimes we Christians like to attend but don't ask us to do anything! Thanks for the reminder.

Good food for thought! My mom recently gave me a set of china and told me to use and enjoy it. Displayed china is lovely, but how much lovelier to use and enjoy it. I wonder if God isn't looking at us and saying, "I have created you and molded and shaped you, and you are beautiful to me. Now, don't sit idly, but go and be used by me. Go on."
