A Senses Fave

FRIDAY ALREADY!

Time to head over to Susanne's and link up to join in on finding those FIVE FAVES from the past week.

Mine all center around Christmas Preparation, some special moments...and using my senses.

How I praise God that I can touch, smell, see, hear, and taste.  Some people might be missing a "sense" or two.....let's not take this part of creation for granted....our bodies are amazing works of the Lord!

  • SIGHTS! The tree is up, candles in the window, wreaths on the doors and walls, stockings are hung, St Nicholas Day was celebrated.....all fun things to look at and enjoy....all good gifts from Him above......for our eyes to feast upon........
from l-r: claire, courtney, faith, dave
My MIL knit the girls' stockings
when they were born.
Claire's wooden shoes for St Nicholas Day

  • SCENTS! The balsam fir wreath is up (compliments of the local Boy Scout troop...thanks, Bryan!) and it's one of my favorite scents....no matter if it's Christmas or I'm on an Adirondack trail/summit just marveling at this scent that God created.  Mmm....and the smell of the following items permeated throughout my house this past week:
PB Xmas Kisses

Steaming cup of passion-fruit/mango tea

  • TOUCH!  The sense of touch can be powerful.  I was absent from work on Monday due to a foot injury.  Apparently my students missed me because when I arrived on Tuesday morning to take 2 of my "special" friends off their bus, they threw their arms around me and gave me huge bear hugs. They shouted "we missed you, Mrs T----" "are you ok?" "yay your're back" (well, until language arts work began...lol....)  Hugs from  these special little people are  always a fave. Other ways the sense of touch made my fave list:  my daughter Claire was very upset at my foot injury so her hugs to help me feel better were special...and that ice pack she brought for my toe felt great, too!  My husband's warm knit sweater that I cuddled up against while we watched a Xmas movie last weekend felt awesome as well...hugs from daughter and sitting in husband's arms are always a fave.....
  • HEARING!  This sense is something I cannot imagine living without.  Oh, how I love the sound of good music.  I listened to a lot of baroque and classical music while running errands in the car, and I also popped in this cd (Casting Crowns!) to listen to on the way home from work each day. Listening to the worship team at church lead us on Sunday in one of my fave Xmas songs was awesome as well....we do a really cool version of Angels We Have Heard on High....it is almost like the original with a bit of a "pop" to it...I just love singing it. I am hoping to join the Xmas choir next year....I miss singing in a choir!  I also have enjoyed hearing the delighted giggles of one little Down Syndrome boy we work with each morning....his laugh is infectious.....laughing children and amazing music is always a fave!

  • TASTE!  Wow....I don't usually go to fast food chains but this peppermint mocha from McDonald's looked so good on the billboard that my husband and I stopped in while Claire was singing the National Anthem at a local college's basketball game with the Select Chorus on Saturday nite. The game (Siena College) was in downtown Albany; we had an hour to kill while the chorus sang. We walked around downtown for a bit and then warmed up with the hot drink. YUMMY! I also enjoyed tasting these delicious flavors this week:
curry in my slow-cooker curry chicken stew
chocolate orange fudge
my specialty fudge

What about you??

Do you have some faves from the past week??

I have many more......texting my oldest about her exams, special text messages from 2 good church friends, birthday cards from friends and family (I'm 52  today so I am now officially middle-aged according to my daughters...my goal is to reach 104....!!), Christmas sales, Scriptures that speak a personal word to me......and just sleeping next to my husband in a warm comfy bed.....so many good things that God brings into our lives.....take a moment and find a few to thank Him for......

HAPPY WEEKEND!!

Happy birthday! (And thank you daughters for implying that I have a few more years before I reach middle age. :) )

I agree with everything on your list, I think--especially the fragrance of balsam fir, the flavor of fudge, the sound of music.

Hope your foot is completely healed very soon. Have a great weekend!

Those are great faves. I think we take our senses for granted. Yes, thank God for them!

I love the theme of your fives. Senses are definitely something to be thankful for and something we tend to take for granted. It's great to purposefully take note of them.

Happy birthday, Faith!

Faith what a delightful post! I agree, having the gift of all 5 senses is an incredible blessing.

I'm interested in your orange fudge - I've never heard of that.

Happy birthday, and may you make it to 104!

Our senses are for sure one of the most wonderful gifts God has given us! My MIL is vision impaired so I am VERY grateful for my sight - I'd hate to not be able to read a book for example.

Loved all the things that satisfied your senses this week!

And thanks for your prayers for Ava - she is recovering at home now and doing well.

Happy birthday!!! I love your list. With the Christmas Music playing on your page, and the pretty background, I feel christmasy all over!

I'm sorry that you hurt yourself - I hope you are healing well. If being surrounded by love helps, you should be 110% by now. :)

I loved your overflowing extras, too.
