Friday! and it's almost mid-winter! As I type this there is a little light snow falling to the ground....so pretty......
Time to look back at the week and find 5 favorite things that God blessed us with.
This writing exercise gets us thinking about all the various things we are involved in each day of the past week and we get to choose the top 5 things we might consider blessings or favorites. Even if the week was hectic, or hard, we can always find a blessing...big or small, it doesn't matter.
This is hosted by Susanne so head over to her site to read the guidelines and link up!
- CHICK FLICK NITES. We had TWO this past weekend. On Saturday evening I had both my girls at home...it was Courtney's last weekend with us for a couple months and Dave was away. We watched a funny movie via instant streaming on Netflix (we don't have cable) and it was so fun to do this together. The next evening, we saw The Help that a super nice woman from my church let me borrow. Courtney and I read the novel over a year ago and loved it. The movie is very true to the book and perfect for celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr weekend!
- NEW HIKING SOCKS! My good friend Carla bought me amazing hiking socks for my birthday. They sure came in handy on our first winter hike this past Monday morning. We both had the day off due to the holiday so ventured out to do a 2 mile loop. We discovered it was much too easy of a trail for us but we had fun chatting and scrambling over the frozen ground that had a bit of snow crusted on it with LOTS of ice. Sure glad I had those socks on as the temp was just 6 degrees F when we reached the trailhead.

brr...it's cold out here.... but the hike felt great! Thankful for warm ear muffs, too! January 2012 |
- SAFE TRAVELS! Dave drove Courtney back to the Gordon campus on Tuesday morning. They arrived safe and sound and then Dave drove all the way back here to NYS and arrived safe and sound. It was a long day for him so I was extra thankful that he made it back ok and with no weather issues! And Courtney is safely back in her dorm ready for the 2nd semester adventures!
- COFFEE SALE! The Fresh Market was having one of their Christmas flavored coffees on sale all week. I stopped in and bought the Peppermint Creme one because it is one of my absolute faves! Mmm....just a hint of peppermint in the coffee...and on sale for $5.00 off the original price!! Now THAT's a fave!
- PERFECT PIROUETTES! Claire has 2 ballet classes on Tuesday evenings and a pointe class on Monday evenings. During her pointe class, I ran an errand while they were doing the barre work. When I returned to the studio, she was just starting to do some floor work. I was able to catch her doing a perfect pirouette for the first time on pointe! WHOO HOO!!! She has been practicing those for several weeks....and she nailed it! She spotted, she seemed to just spin effortlessly. And the next evening, while in her advanced ballet class, she did it again! It's always a fave when I can see her class and moving so gracefully. (unfortunately it happened so fast I didn't get to snap a pic)
that's it for the week for me.....but...I saw this wonderful photo on Facebook so I want to share it with you. It captures really well what my small group discussed last evening......(facing our fears and failures as parents). I thought this was perfect! AND it kind of goes along with our latest sermon series at church! (Facing Fear) there are NO coincidences with the Lord!!

Hi Faith
What a lovely 5! I'd like to join you for that hike if I could. I love to be out in the fresh air - even when it's cold. The trick is dress warmly - good thing you had those socks!
I could "see" your girl doing her perfect spin - I took ballet for a little while in our small town and I loved it. But then our teacher moved away. I was so sad.
Love the wisdom in your poster - so true.
Happy weekend!
My husband walks every day no matter the cold. He wears lots of layers! I'll have to look for a nice pair of hiking socks for him.
I loved both the movie and book "the Help". My son got it for me for my birthday. Planning a movie night with my ladies group when we can watch this.
Safe travels for loved ones are always a fave! Bet it was a big relief when they both were in their places safe and sound.
I loved The Help too. I'm familiar with the ballet stuff too. My daughter is gearing up for competitions soon. Such fun to watch!
The sermon series sounds wonderful--something I always need to hear.
That was a cold day for a hike! Glad you enjoyed it and had warm socks! That peppermint coffee sounds pretty good. Could use a cup of it now : ) Glad Dave and Courtney had safe travels. That's always a relief.
What a lovely week you had! Chick flick nites and hiking with your husband! Then you could top it off with a cup of that yummy sounding coffee. Creature comforts are such a blessing!
God bless you and hope you have a wonderful weekend.
The chick flick nights sound fun! I'm reading The Help now - love it except for some bad language. I want to see the film, too.
The socks look cozy. Glad everyone was safe traveling. Love that poster.
I don't know if I could do the hiking, but the rest of your fives are so sweet. I'm glad you had some nice time with your girls. That's so important.
I don't know if you are expecting this snow up north, but here it's definitely a nice weekend to have some good coffee and cozy socks. =)
I love the picture. We are always battling against anxiety with the boys. They love little sayings that they can use for self calming.
I'm glad that the travel to and from gordon was uneventful, and I pray that the extra quiet in the house isn't too bad.
I hope you have a wonderful week.

Nice fives, Faith! Especially the coffee one, lol. I haven't seen the movie or read the book, "The Help" but have wanted to : )
I read and saw The Help and enjoyed both. It would make a great movie night with girlfriends. There is so much to discuss. At the theatre as the credits rolled there was spontaneous applause from the crowd.
I put your poster quote as my fb status. I have got to remember that quote.
I have Netflix instant streaming too. What movie did you all watch?
I admire you and all the hiking you do. This is the year I am getting into shape. maybe someday I, too, will post about the hikes I took. Thanks for your example and how fun you make it sound. :)
