around our house.....

It's been a long time since I've written anything under the "around our house" label......

Am going to have to be on a blogging break from writing and visiting blogs.....at least for most of the upcoming week.

Here is what my 18 year old college freshman and I are doing on her first weekend of Spring Break. Since I don't have Spring Break until April, I still need to do my regular housework (with some help from hubby) and cook regular meals, laundry, etc.  But today....we are doing this:

We are painting the master bedroom a color called "Enchanted Evening" a light blue/green color....very light, more blue than green.....sort of like turquoise...hopefully I can get some good pics up next week. Since my oldest is a graphic design student and really into art, she helped to find the "right" color for our room.  Our quilt is a blend of teals/turquoise/cream/and a tiny bit of cranberry which pops with the dusty rose carpeting that we are not replacing as my husband refuses to buy new carpet. sigh. SO...I decided to change the walls!  We're leaving one wall creme and painting 3 other walls plus possibly leaving the ivy border I stenciled about 15 years ago because we LOVE it.  It's gonna be a long day but I think it'll feel great to have a new look.  I'm adding some new curtains to top the sheer creme ones and have added some new decorative pillows....this should be fun!

Dave is out doing errands.....and will hopefully help with housework later today.....

Claire has an all day musical rehearsal.  Beauty and the Beast is the production at the junior high this year and she is loving being part of the cast.  There are 60 kids in the cast.  They have rehearsals every day after school this week and next until 6:30 pm so she is going to be very busy.  She also has an audition for the New York City Ballet summer program at Saratoga Performing Arts Center next Sunday....please keep her in your prayers. This is her first major ballet audition for a "real" company! :)  We are not really sure what to expect other than they warned us there are only 15 spots for local children and over 350 audition. yikes.  But the experience will be good for her.

We also have some company coming from out of state in 2 weeks so I have menu planning to do for a weekend and extra chores around the house i want to accomplish......all this while trying to savor the simple pleasures that God brings into our daily lives.....

finding quiet times among the busyness........

How do you do it??  Do you have busy weekends sometimes......I find it difficult to accomplish everything I WANT to do while working full time. It really has been a big adjustment for me after 16 years of just part time work.  And changes are happening there at the school.  It's giving me much to think about.......

for now...we will paint, clean, arrange, and steal some moments later tonite to just relax and find the simple joys......

What are YOU doing this weekend???

HAPPY WEEKEND!!

The color sounds like it's going to be lovely. I'm wanting a change in our room color too and have no idea where to go with it.

We had dinner with friends tonight and tomorrow we're going to go see "Iron Lady".

I totally know what you mean about working full time. I've been doing it for many, many years and still hate it. My weekends are taken up with trying to get caught up on just the everyday things that I can't seem to get to during the week.

Best wishes for your performer and her upcoming audition! And for you during this busy time. It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to revitalize a home - I will be tackling it this summer too.
