Do you like "feel-good" books?
Well, if you do, this is one of those books!
I've seen this author's books numerous times on the towne library shelves but I had only read one (Sandcastles) before this one. Like the first one I read, this was an easy and quick read.
It's set on a part of Cape Cod I've never been to, but one in which I want to visit someday soon: Martha's Vineyard. Part of the book is also set in Ireland.
The genre is contemporary fiction.
The story revolves around a family of 3 sisters, whose mom has died earlier in the year. They have inherited the family beach house but can't really afford the taxes on it so feel led to sell the place. Their dad sailed away for his homeland of Ireland, when the oldest sister (Dar) was 12. They haven't seen him since and don't know if he is dead or alive. He sailed back to Ireland determined to find the supposed landgrant that was titled to his family from an earlier century.
Dar is cleaning out a room when she discovers an old cache of letters that reveals enough of the truth to send the sisters back to their ancestral homeland. Each sister is very different but their lives are all filled with love, beauty, sorrow......never being sure of the deep love they can trust.
Will they find their father?? What happens to the beach house?
and just what IS the silver boat?? read carefully.......the symbolism is really good!!

Read the book to find out! I don't wanna spoil it for you.
This book is appropriate for ages 15 and older.
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, I rate this a 9.
I am now on the third book on my Spring Thing Reading Challenge 2012 list!

Sounds interesting. Don't know how good I am at figuring out symbolism though. I tend to take books more at face value. My oldest on the other hand though, is a master at figuring out sybolism.
