Savoring Special Faves

The first Friday of July!!

I've now been done with work for 2 solid weeks and it has been glorious.  Summer started out with some cool, sunny weather, then hot, humid weather, and today as I type this opening (Thursday) we have nice temps in the upper 70s, a great breeze and golden sun.  I LOVE summer, can't you tell??

Celebrating FIVE FAVES with other bloggers who link up over at Susanne's.....how about joining in and telling us the things God blessed you with this past week?

Mine are simple things that are special to me and typically only occur in summer!

  • Romantic Weekend Away!  This was truly special. We hadn't been away  for a weekend without our daughters in about 10 years. Dave and I stayed in the Eastern part of the Adirondacks, about 2  hrs north of our home, at this lovely Bed and Breakfast.  And in the photos above, we were on the front porch before heading out to celebrate our 22nd Anniversary in Schroon Lake at an excellent restaurant. Unfortunately, the carriage house restaurant has no website so I can't link you to it! Here is a side view pic of it. We relaxed on Friday, hiked all day on Saturday (our actual anniversary) followed by a delicious meal in Ticonderoga, relaxed Saturday night and Sunday morning. Hiking, ice cream, incredible breakfasts by the inn owners,  quaint restaurants, good wine, and no children......... special! We were exhausted as the mountain was  a 7.6 mile climb but we were happy we accomplished it! For more about that hike, click here.

  • Evening Walk.  Dave and I went into Schroon Lake village and walked down to the village beach after dinner on Friday evening. There were a few families still swimming and many people sitting and enjoying the scenery. We walked for awhile admiring the Eastern peaks and the quaint shoppes. I love evenings in the Adirondacks, especially near the lakes. We followed this walk up with ice cream from a quaint, new stand back near the B & B. A nice evening for our first night of the weekend!

  • LIGHT LUNCHES! I am finding that I really don't like to eat sandwiches all that much anymore especially since I've cut carbs, like bread, from most of my meals. The lunch featured above is leftover spinach salad with poppy-seed dressing on a whole grain flat wrap.  Mmm.....add to that a nice tall glass of chilled lemonade, my book, and the outdoors.  I have had most of our meals outside on the deck all week.....it's always special eating outdoors...we even ate dinner outside just about every evening.  The deck is in the shade from about 2 pm on, so that makes it extra special on hotter days!

  • Comfy Reading Area!  I found the outdoor pillow on major clearance this past week at this establishment....one of my very fave stores!  I sit out here in the morning with coffee and my Bible/journal/devotional or small group study.  I sit here in the afternoon after housework when it's shady and I treat myself to reading a couple of chapters in whatever the latest novel is I'm reading. This corner of the deck is great in the evenings too...sometimes Dave and I light candles or get the fire pit going. Relaxing in a comfy corner is always special!

  • First Swim of the Year in Lake George!  The girls and I headed north yesterday because it was a perfect summer day. Temps in the mid-80s', sunny and blue skies. We went about 1 1/2 hours north to one of our absolute favorite beaches in a little town called Bolton Landing. It is right on Lake George (a 32 mile long lake and a rather "touristy, kitschy" kind of place for those of you not from NY). Bolton Landing is less touristy and kitschy than the village of Lake George but...the lake itself is just gorgeous.  We actually prefer it when the tourist season is over (about Labor Day weekend). We typically head to Bolton Landing to swim and browse the antique stores and that's just what we did. We had a lot of sun but it was cool at first up there. It started getting crowded about 2:30 pm so we headed back down to the village of Lake George, bought ice cream, sat and chatted and then headed home. The thing that made it special is that both of my girls went and we all had fun together........days at the beach are always special!
What blessings did God show you this week??

Please share at least one in the comment section....and if you post your five faves, I'll be over to check them out!!!

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Sounds like a special week for you, Faith! My five favorite things from this week...1. It rained during the night and the Lord took care of my garden. 2. We are getting a good dent in cleaning up branches in the woods and making things look pleasant. 3. I have been going through our clothing, both saved items in the basement and in our bedrooms and have 6-7 bags to go bless other people..such abundance the Lord has provided! 4. We had a lovely day on the 4th with my husband home..and a delicious special meal together. 5. The Lord is such a good and faithful heavenly Father, that I have no wants. :)

I love your faves - mostly because they're all favourites with me too!!

A belated Happy Anniversary - your weekend away sounds lovely!

Our deck is a bit damp in the early morning but I think I'll dry off the chair and sit out there anyway. It's so lovely this time of year.

We're having about the same kind of weather as you are. One of our best summers in a few years. Last year it rained all July! So depressing :)

I've been to the beach a few times too - no lakes up here though. Salt water - I find it so refreshing although I enjoyed lake swimming when we used to live in Ontario.

Happy weekend Faith!

You two look so nice dressed up!

Schroon Lake?? I've been to Schroon Lake and stayed at Word of Life! I have a sweatshirt with Lake George on the front!! (I think I've told you this before...) These pictures made me miss our usual NY part of summer vacation. We don't go this far up, but we do visit near Bear Mountain. We can't do that this summer and I do miss it!

So nice that you had a special weekend! Enjoy your week.

Your retreat and fun days in the sun sound positively refreshing! Those summer temperatures are perfect -- hope things don't get too much hotter.
