Wow...we are into October already!!
We've been in school now for 3 full weeks (21 days!) and yet it sometimes seems like summer was so far away! The good news is that here in Eastern New York State, we are having a very mild autumn so far......bright blue skies, full sunshine, sparkling dew on the grass in the morning and the leaves beginning to change to vibrant reds, yellows and oranges. The yellow is especially pretty this year! I love autumn and there are a few annual events I engage in, that only tend to happen in the fall. Some of them made my Fave Five list for the week.

- MORNING COFFEE: this is always a fave, but this past week it has especially been a fave as I've stayed up late every night and really needed that morning jolt of caffeine. There is nothing, in my opinion, like that first steaming sip of fragrant coffee in the morning. I love that our brewer has the auto feature so we can set it up the night before....and wake up to that amazing scent. Thank You, God, for the coffee bean!
Village Green in Weston, Vermont 28 September |
- ROAD TRIP TO VERMONT: Last Saturday, Claire and I headed north to pick up my sister Joy for our 2nd annual autumn road trip. It was just amazing. We headed north-east to Weston, Vermont, which is about 2 1/2 hrs from where I live. The leaves are at peak season in Vermont and the colors were stunning. Not all the trees in our area have turned color yet, so it was especially fun for Claire and I. Joy lives about 50 minutes north of us in the foothills of the eastern Adirondacks, so her trees are already colorful. It was an absolutely gorgeous drive from the eastern edge of the Adirondack mountains over the border into the Green Mountains of our neighboring state. The village of Weston is very small but we had so much fun exploring....which leads me to the next fave.........
LUNCH! |
Shopping! |
- LUNCH AND SHOPPING! We had a lovely lunch at the restaurant next door to the Vermont Country Store. What great food and pretty good prices...the produce, cheeses and certain meats were all from local farms. Everything was delicious and so filling we had no room for their yummy desserts. We then walked next door to the famous Country Store where I bought a birthday gift for a friend, and a couple of things for a baby gift. I also did a little bit of Christmas shopping for the girls and my mother in law. After about an hour in there, we walked across the road to the other 2 attractions in the village. I found more Christmas gifts here and then I found some adorable gifts (Xmas ornaments) here:

After walking around and popping into a little art gallery, we decided to head back over to the restaurant that featured an outdoor soda fountain and ordered ice cream.........we then drove back to NY in the late afternoon. Thank You, God, for creating such a beautiful world and for allowing me to live in the Northeast where we enjoy a gorgeous autumn season!
- Meeting a Friend: On Monday evening, while Claire was at a ballet class, I ventured over to the towne park to meet a good friend of mine so I could give her a birthday gift. She has been a friend for probably about 15 years or more...we used to attend the same church...we rarely get together but we do live in the same town.......it's always like time has never passed though when we do get to meet. She told me about the wooded trails which I didn't even know were in another part of the park! So sometime tomorrow I am going to go back over there and walk them....I thank God for having friendships that have lasted for years!
"Captain America" a.k.a Claire! Superheroes Day, Homecoming Week |
- HOMECOMING WEEK! I always looked forward every autumn to Homecoming Week at S---High School when our oldest daughter was there. Since she graduated in 2011, we have missed Homecoming events for the last 2 years. But once again, we have a daughter in high school! Most of Claire's freshmen friends wanted to participate in Superheroes Day so she thought they would all be a different "Avenger". Claire was Captain America and made her outfit. Dave cut the wood into a circle but Claire did everything else. What fun!! Other spirit days this week were "wear pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Class Spirit (wear the class color...for freshmen it is red) and finally today was School Spirit day with the kids all wearing the school colors of Blue and White. Tonight is the parade (Claire will march in it for Russian Club) and the football game and tomorrow night is the Homecoming Dance. She is so excited. We get excited right along with her!! Thank You, God, for a great school district that plans fun events for the students.
That wraps it up for me.....I like this Scripture about thanking God...His Love is everlasting....forever!

It's amazing to me that there is such a difference in the autumn leaves changing in driving only 50 minutes. Here we're having high winds and 80F. Our leaves are dropping too but only because it's dry and windy.
Having long time good friends is wonderful. (Make new friends, but keep the old...)
Have a fun weekend!
I liked the third house myself. It was more 'authentically Early California Mission'. Interestingly, none of the homes had yards or gardens (much) but I'm sure that the price tags were in the million dollar range, it being Santa Barbara.
The little girl is 'my granddaughter to be', the foster adopt daughter of one of my children. (no names, face photos allowed until adoption is finalized)
I've never been in your area, but it looks lovely! So nice to meet a friend and catch up. I've enjoyed some friends' photos on Facebook for their schools' Spirit Week with its theme for each day, but I hadn't seen a superhero day. Nice costume!
I sure wish that we had fall foliage in Florida. The leaves don't turn pretty shades; they just die and fall off the trees.
Looks like you had a delightful week!
Great fives! Of course the coffee fave is my fave! I love Vermont. Joe and I went there on our honeymoon but we ended up in Rutland and there was more to do up farther north I guess. We'd like to get out there again some day :)
I remember homecoming week!! Loved it :)
