End of October Faves

I'm in denial that it's the end of October therefore I'm just gonna jump in and list my five faves from the past week....this is a writing exercise a bunch of us bloggers do to keep an attitude of gratitude.  It's hosted by the lovely Susanne.  Link up and join in!

FIVE FAVES

Dave in our backyard
  • CHORES DONE!  Saturday was an amazingly beautiful day.  We completed so many chores in and around the house.  One of them was the brush pile finally got burned!  It didn't take long as the brush was so dry due to our lack of rain.  I'm so glad that little corner by the shed is now cleaned up and cleared.  We also took the awning off the swing as we were expecting high winds on Sunday and Monday.  In another couple of weekends, I will remove the cushions and pillows too until next spring.  But I'm just not ready yet.  I still sit out there to read in the late afternoons! I'm thankful we got so much done!

  • DATE NIGHT IN!  Saturday evening  was our in-home date night so Dave and I chose to watch this Netflix original with two of our fave actors, Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.  It was exquisite.  So well done!  I'm so thankful we had this night in to just relax together on the family room couch.  I highly recommend this movie if you have Netflix online streaming.  (we do to our television and it's about all I watch now!)

  • WORSHIP!  I love going to my church on Sunday morning and the 11 a.m. service is my favorite because we typically have about 1200 people during that time.  With all of those voices raised in praise and worship, it is just powerful.  This past week, the music list was especially amazing and the hymn "Blessed Assurance" was what we ended the service with.  It was one of my mom's and dad's favorite ones and since Tuesday was the 5th anniversary of her sudden death, this was especially poignant to me.  I'm so thankful to be a part of a vibrant church that loves to worship!

  • NEW GLASSES!  Well, I finally decided after 4 years, that it was time to get a new pair of glasses and sunglasses and since my prescription had changed a little bit, it was expensive but worth it.  (our medical insurance doesn't cover much for vision other than the exam).  I love these and the sunglasses are exactly the same only with a grey tone to the frames vs the dark brown.  My oldest daughter snapped this pic before we went out for dinner. The wind was blowing as it seemed like it was about to rain so my hair is a little messy in the photo but I'm thankful for these new glasses because I hadn't realized just how much better the progressive lenses are when the actual lens is wider and lower.  I just love them!

  • DAUGHTER DINNER DATE:  Wednesday evening, Courtney's small group study was cancelled and Dave goes right from work to the Youth Center, Courtney and I decided to go out for a dinner date.  We decided to try the new diner in town (our town has 3.....one we never go to as it isn't that great and one is a fave with the locals and always busy and used to be our fave too until last night!).  This one is under new name and ownership and the owners own a diner to the south of us towards NYC, as well as another restaurant in the Capital Region.  The service was absolutely impeccable and the food delish.  We both had Italian Chicken wraps known as The Godfather.  We both ordered different sides.  I tried their sweet potato fries (not great) and coleslaw.  The coleslaw was perfect and was part of the package deal.  We decided to try their Apple Crumb pie and it was amazing!  Coffee was just perfect.  We found ourselves loving the minimalist look that they chose as the decor.  (the previous owners had everything in red and black and it had a 1950s theme).  This is done in white and blue with silver and it is just stunning.  We had great conversation about books we are reading, and some other things and it was just such a nice evening out with my young adult daughter.  Too soon she will be moving out and be one her own so I am savoring every minute with her!
That wraps up my week.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend doing the things you love.

I'm in the midst of my yard chores - I was so happy to get bulbs in while the weather is still warm. I've dug through snow a few too many times!

Nice glasses! I got news one this summer and I found the same thing - larger lens makes progressives easier!

Thanks for the movie recommendation Faith - I've seen it on Netflix but haven't watched it yet.

Nice you had that dinner out with your girl! Precious times!!

Hope you have a great week!

I had not heard of that movie - I will have to look it up. I need to get an eye exam soon.

I'm glad you had such a beautiful weekend and got so many chores done, as well as a nice dinner date with your daughter.

How neat that one of your mom's favorite hymns came up on the anniversary of her passing.

Thanks for the Netflix suggestion. I am putting that on my to watch list. Maybe I can watch it while I do one more decluttering episode before I leave for vacation.

Love the Fall background behind you. The glasses are flattering. And how wonderful to be able to see better. From one glasses-wearer-to-another I KNOW what a blessing that is.

Hurray for getting chores done. Yes, all too soon all reminders of Fall will be behind us and we'll be doing more inside activities.

What a treat it is to hear so many voices praising God all at the same time. It is a little taste of Heaven.

Prayers for comfort for your heart. It is hard to lose our mamas.

Have a great week, Faith.

So nice that you and your daughter had a dinner date. We like to do that, too. I'm glad you mentioned the movie. They are two of my favorites together, and I'll have to put that on my Netflix list.

Enjoy the weekend!

So far I have bagged 7 huge black garbage bags of leaves, and I squash them down to boot. So many leaves!! We are yet again under a fire ban so no burning of anything here. Finding new places to eat is fun. So nice that you girls took that opportunity. Worship has been wonderful at our church too. We are nowhere near the amount of people you have but boy when they come ready to worship and sing out it is amazing. Love the new glasses. I got new ones this year too but like you wanted the sunglasses. We have no coverage so I thought I'd give the Transitions a try (the ones that turn to sunglasses when the UV rays hit them.) While I love that I don't have to lug sunglasses everywhere and switch them all the time, they don't quite get perfectly clear which I don't like. I'm going to look for that movie tonight on Canadian netflix. We don't always get the same as you guys so keeping my fingers crossed.

What a lovely week, date night, daughter time what's not to like. The new glasses look great. I often hesitate when choosing glasses as they're so expensive but then I think I have to wear them all the time, every day so I should have ones that I like!

It was too too hot here this week to do outdoor chores. But it has cooled down so tomorrow I will be able to be outdoors again. I hope I am as diligent as you were.
That restaurant sounds like it was great!
Oh glasses--yeah. It's a yearly thing for me as my eyes keep changing. Now I get to think about cataracts :)

Ever since I had my cataracte eye sugery I don't need glasses anymore at all !! That's so strange I am looking all the time after my glasses, lol !
