Here we are almost to the end of July!
Summer school is half over! Only 3 more weeks until my end of August vacation which lasts all the way until school begins again, 2 days after Labor Day! I'm looking forward to the slower pace of not going in to work. For now, I'm looking back over this week and sharing FIVE of my FAVE things from it and then linking up at Susanne's site with other women who do the same. It's important to look for the blessings God brings, even if they're little mundane things.
FIVE FAVES

- MOTHER-DAUGHTER DATE: Each summer, the NYC Ballet comes to our area (Saratoga Springs) to perform several ballets. This year the full ballet that they performed was Romeo and Juliet. I bought tickets for Claire and I back in March so we could get good, center seats in the balcony section. The money spent is well worth it! We got to see Sterling perform as Juliet which just thrilled me. She is exquisite and very young-like...perfect for the role. Claire and I had never seen the entire ballet and although NYCB prefers using Prokofiev's score instead of Tchaikovsky's (my fave), it was fun to hear the Prokofiev as the music really fit the acting/dancing. My youngest sister and her husband and 2 daughters went as well and sadly none of us thought to take a photo! The weather was just beautiful...not hot and humid for which we were thankful.
fresh tomatoes from a local farm |
- PRODUCTIVE MORNING: I got up Saturday morning and spent some time in the Word and then drove down to our town's Farmers Market to get some farm fresh tomatoes and just wander around. One booth had fresh squeezed lemonade and the woman making it didn't add much sugar at all which is how I make it and love it! This was amazing and felt so refreshing as the day was starting to heat up. I ended up running into a former colleague from when I worked for the public school and we walked about 2 miles together on one of the bike trails. It was so much fun catching up and it got me moving! I then spent some time running errands and then enjoyed a nice Saturday afternoon of housework and getting little things done. The weather stayed nice too and it wasn't until Sunday that the high heat and humidity moved back in forcing us to turn on the central air. I'm thankful I had a weekend day to get caught up on things around the house.
- FAVE HYMN: On Sunday morning, after the sermon, while the tithe baskets were being passed, we sang a fave hymn of mine: Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. I just love the harmonies in it! It was fun to stand with my husband and sing in harmony. Our church's worship team does such a great job....we incorporate many of the more contemporary hymns and songs sung by the Christian artists of today but our pastor has a rule that a traditional hymn must be done for each service. I just love the old hymns as well as the newer ones!
in the front garden |
- BLOOMS! Last year my phlox did NOT do well at all. I cleared out a large bush that was in the center of this front yard flower garden, added some new gardening soil, and cleared out some weeds and trimmed the rose bush near it. This past week, I noticed bright pink blooms shortly after it started raining. I think it's so pretty and I'm thankful the flowers have revived.
- STUDY CHOSEN! After researching several Bible studies for women, I finally had peace about one and when I saw it was on sale at Amazon, I said "yup....this is the new book for September". (I lead a small group of women ages 35 and older in my home twice a month). This next school year, the group will be more book focused although it is grounded in Scripture. It's titled Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper. I am excited to see if I'll have any new women!
That wraps up my week.
How about you? do you have any special blessings that made you smile this week? Please do share!
Have a wonderful weekend,

Mother/daughter dates are so fun. So neat that you and Claire have that tradition of going to see the ballet. I have yet to hit up the farmer's market. Ours is only open on Saturday until noon and I just never seem to make it there by that time. Pretty phlox. I'm trying to move toward more perrenials within the garden. The annuals are getting so expensive. Yay for choosing a study! We chose ours at the last meeting of our study. So much pressure relieved! We will be studying Psalm 119.
I never thought of doing a study twice a month. Hmmm - the ladies stay consistent in attending? Is this an evening study? I wan to consider such a time frame for my small group as well.
Hurray for flowering plants that come back from the dead. Your phlox is so pretty. I have a veggie garden this year and over half my plants died. And I have no idea why. I picked my first veggie yesterday, a lemon cucumber.
Tomatoes from the vine are amazing. So glad you can get them at your farmer's market. A friend gave me a bagful from her vines. It is such a treat to have them plain with a little salt.
Can you recommend a Christian, fiction book that is set at Christmas time? We are trying to pick something for our December women's book club.
Mother-Daughter dates (even when they include others) are the best especially when it involves art. what perfect seats you got. Maybe no photos but the memories will live on!
Have a fun and refreshing weekend.
Beautiful ballet!! I love the farmer's market also. It's fun to intentionally buy locally, and the variety is just fun to see!!
What a lovely mother-daughter date, especially when one is a ballerina! We have a nice farmer's market downtown on Saturdays, but I don't get down that way often. Your Saturday sounds like a nice mix of activities. Glad your flowers revived! Our church usually has at least one older hymn per service as well. I have heard of the sermon that study is based on but have not heard the whole sermon or read the book. I hope it's a fruitful study for your group.
You asked about whether the under-cabinet lights were battery-operated and included batteries. Yes to both questions. It was nice not to have to deal with wiring. They had screws if someone wanted to use those, but they also had the velcro-type Command strips, which we used. Made installation super-easy.
How nice that your pastor includes the older hymns in your services. It's a thrill when something thrives in the garden! I need to make a note to find some phlox for mine. Your day that began with the farmer's market sounds lovely.
I too love the old hymns and love to sing them. (I wish our pastor had such a rule)
Mother daughter dates sound like fun and you can do something that others don't much care about doing.
I love our farmers market and we get our produce at it every week. Enjoy your fresh food!!
Love your Faves from last week. I hope to be able to get back into Friday Faves again soon! I have also enjoyed your hiking pictures from Facebook. I bet those will be among your favorite things from next week! Hugs from UT!
