Mid-August Faves

Well, here it is Friday again and the only blogging I've done all week besides last week's FFF was a book review.  That will soon change as I enter into my vacation time.

Pausing for a moment to share in FIVE FAVES from the past week...these are things that made us smile or say "Thank You" to our God, the giver of all good things.  You can learn more by heading over to Living to Tell the Story, hosted by Susanne.

  • SCRIPTURE PHOTO:  My good friend who happens to be my next door neighbor and a member of the small group I lead, as well as a member of the social club/hikers group I lead, sent me this photo she created. She was using Dave's kayak at the time as we kayaked together a couple weekends ago.  She snapped this pic of me heading towards the boat launch and then used the new Bible Lens app which gives you a Scripture to match the photo!  I just downloaded the app to my phone but haven't used it yet.  I think it's so cool!  I'm thankful for good friends who enjoy time outdoors with me and for fun, free apps to use.

  • QUICK CAR REPAIR:  My "check emissions" light came on over the weekend.  Ugh...I despise all this technology in a car yet it is so convenient to get to the root of the problem. Dave dropped it off at the dealer who then gave him a ride to work on Monday.  This was around 10 a.m. By 1:30 the car was ready for pick-up and thankfully it was just a minor issue, something that happens to the selenoid in a Honda on extremely hot days. The sensor needed to be replaced and all is well and I had my car back by 6 pm with a less than $200 bill, thank you GOD!!

(some of) Claire's dorm stuff

  • PACKING!  Claire, our 19 year old, has started to pack her stuff up to move into her dorm next week. We have her use the living room as that's the  room that gets the least amount of use.  I'm thankful she does her own packing and labeling, and I'm thankful she's had a nice long break.  Back to UNH on Wednesday!

  • FRESH BERRIES!  This past week, our local grocery market had fresh organic berries on sale.  I bought blackberries and raspberries and oh my goodness, they were excellent  We had them one night with dinner and I put them on my oatmeal in the morning along with some blueberries and walnuts.  I always add a small dusting of cinnamon as well.  They are just so good!  I'm thankful for fresh summer produce!

  • SMOOTH GOODBYE:  Yesterday was our prekindergarten "graduation" ceremony.  We said "good bye'  to 6 out of our 13 special students.  I got a little choked up as they performed the dance/song we practiced all summer.  Almost all of them sang and danced like we practiced and the parents and relatives who came were so proud of their children.  We gave out little "diplomas" to the kids going on to public school and a special certificate to the ones we will see again in the fall.  and I am SO thankful to now be on vacation until September 4th!!

That wraps up my faves.....I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, doing the summer things you love!

I love the idea of the Bible Lens app. I am going to download that as well. Thanks for letting us know. I think this app will make me smile a lot this week.
And it sure was lovely of your neighbor to send you that photo. It is a nice keepsake.

Check engine lights are a blessing though, eh? I also have a Honda and I find my dealership to be so helpful. Sounds like your's is as well. And hurray for a bill that is doable.

That is nice that Claire does her own packing and labeling. Impressive that she has already started. And it is helpful that she can store the items in another room. Wednesday will be here before we know it and your girl will be off on another year's adventure at uni.

Fresh, organic produce is something I LOVE about summer. Hurray for fresh berries. I picked a zucchini from my garden and a friend gave me a tomato. I feel spoiled and grateful when I get to eat such food.

Good job on preparing the kiddos for their end-of-summer program. And now you get a deserved break. I hope it has the right balance of productivity and relaxing.

I love that Scripture photo app! Great photo of you, too.
MMmmm, fresh berries! That's the best summer food!
Enjoy your days off! Two weeks, right? I know you will spend the time hiking, kayaking and reading :)

Tried to sign up for the bible app but they don't have an android one ready yet. Glad the car repair was minor. Funny buy my check emissions light came on too. Our mechanic thought it was a seal that had started to dry out on the gas cap lid. Hopefully that's what it was. Safe travels to Claire as she returns to school. Enjoy your time off!
