One of my very fave crime/mystery authors has done it again......
written a fast -paced novel with some of my very fave characters.
This book is the latest in the Women's Murder Club series.
STORY SUMMARY
Lyndsay Boxer, homicide detective is married to Joe Molinaro, former Homeland Security agent. They have one daughter, now a toddler, named Julie. Lyndsay is best friends with Claire who is San Francisco's medical examiner. Claire is married with 3 children. The other two women in the Murder Club are Cindy who is a reporter, and Yuki, a lawyer, who is married to Brady, another homicide detective. All of the characters make an appearance in this latest novel although it is mainly centered around Yuki and Lyndsay.
There've been a series of shootings at close range in San Francisco. All of the victims are homeless and all are done late at night. One woman becomes a confidential informant....until she herself ends up dead. Lyndsay becomes involved in helping to solve the murders of these homeless people, and she discovers some disturbing conclusions.....and some are among the SFPD!
On top of trying to solve these murders which aren't even in her jurisdiction except for the CI's murder, she is trying to figure out what is physically wrong with her. Is she pregnant again? or is a life threatening illness rearing its ugly head?
Meanwhile, Yuki gets a case handed to her by a man saying he was raped by a female colleague he had been dating. She begins to push professional boundaries to get to the heart of this case. This could be the case of a lifetime!
And yet...something about the man's story does not ring true......
Will ADA Yuki bring justice or chaos to the courthouse?
And will Lyndsay solve these murders before succumbing to her own personal demons?
Read the story to find out!
MY THOUGHTS
The story is very believable although the homeless victims side of it is very predictable. But the focus in this latest novel is on Lyndsay and her personal life. She is sick. And she will need to take some time off. Just in time, her husband Joe gets offered a new job. It's perfect and I can't wait to find out what the author intends to do with Lyndsay's character in the next book.
I was very disappointed that we don't really learn WHY the killer of the homeless people killed the way that he did. I mean, it's touched on, but I thought we'd get to see it more from a psychological point of view. It was quite a let down.
The whole courtroom battle regarding the male rape was a bit of a let down, too. I was really hoping it was not going to go the way that it did...but it did...... if the author had had it go another way, it would have been much more exciting and important in today's culture.
it's still a great story but the whole Lyndsay and then Jacobi revelation is what makes this book good. Otherwise, it's just yet another ok mystery.
I still think the author's Alex Cross series is his very best.
In my opinion, this book is appropriate for ages 17 and older (due to some graphic and mature content).
On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate this a 7.

I haven't read any of Patterson's books. Perhaps I should give them a try. I enjoy and appreciate your reviews. Happy New Year to you!
