Mid-Winter Faves

Winter
....my least fave season.

But it's about half way over so let's pause, grab a steaming mug of your fave hot beverage since it's so cold (at least here in the Northeast) and find FIVE of our FAVE blessings from the week.  You can find out more about this by heading over to Susanne's site.

FIVE FAVES

  • BREAKFAST!  Early Saturday morning, I had my annual blood work and after the 12 hour fast, I was so hungry and longing for my coffee!  I had a breakfast date with 2 of the ladies from my small group and because I arrived at the cafe about a half hour earlier than they did, it gave me time to do some reading.  And when C and A got there, we really had such a good conversation.  The food was wonderful and the 2 hours flew by.  I'm thankful for social time with the ladies in my group and I'm hoping that for our next one, the entire group can go.

  • MOVIE NIGHT:  Dave and I wanted a movie night so we chose Saturday evening to stay home and do nothing.  Our oldest girl was out with friends until after midnight, and since we had planned on having leftovers for dinner, we were ready to curl up on the family room couch together and enjoy a comedy.  This movie was hilarious!  We found it on Netflix and since we both really like Jane Fonda we agreed this would be the one.  It's a great, light comedy with a very nice ending.  Jane and J Lo are great together! I'm thankful we had a nice cozy evening together.....we really despise winter and just tend to hibernate.

  • GOOD RESULTS!  My PAP results came back on Monday and I was relieved to see that all is normal.  I don't need to go back for 2 more years so thank the Lord for that! AND my blood work came back with a great report of my vitamin D levels being "great".  My doc said I am the first woman she's had in a long time with such good vitamin D levels that she was very surprised.  (in the Northeast, especially because of winter, our levels tend to be low).  I told her I take a multi-vitamin every day that contains added D so....maybe that's why!).  My other vitals were all good although I was disappointed that my "bad" cholesterol went up......time to do some increased working out during the work week. I do tend to get lazy in the winter months. But I have a good plan for after work so let's hope I can lower that score! I'm thankful though that the overall number was still within normal limits.

  • LEGS!!  About 4 weeks ago I ordered a new living room chair to replace a small rocking chair that we inherited from Dave's great-great-grandmother but that in practical terms no one could really sit in.  I found the above chair online at Pier1 and within 10 days it arrived at my house.  Without the legs.  After 4 phone calls and 2 emails to customer service, and another week, I finally got the legs!  Love the chair....it's actually very comfortable.  I'm thankful everything worked out and one customer service rep went above and beyond for me.

  • Flannel Sheets: I am SO thankful for flannel sheets this month.  We have had some bitter cold nights. I can't even sleep with the window open as it has been below 0 (F).  BRR....Dave and I have been getting in bed early with our books, just to stay warm and cozy. I'm thankful for the softness and warmth.

That wraps up my week.  I hope wherever you are, that you are healthy, warm and having a great start to February!!

Yay that those Vitamin D levels were great! I can easily understand how living in the NE area of the country affects that number. Our son who lives in Maine tells me about it every winter.

I'm so glad that you were eventually able to get the legs for your chair that you ordered. I love that style of chair and I also love the sweet little lights that you behind it.

I understand the love for flannel sheets! Aren't they just great?

Good health report all around! We loved that movie, and Jane Fonda is one of my favorites, too. That chair is so cute! Glad you got the legs, haha!

I think I'm in the minority, but I do love winter. We tend to get a lot of breaks with mild weather mixed in, sometimes too much so for my tastes, but maybe that's why it tends to go too quickly.

Always a relief when labs come back with good numbers. That movie does sound fun. It's sooo frustrating trying to get service problems fixed - glad you finally got your chair legs.

I have to agree on the flannel sheets even though I don't live in freezing weather. Love my flannels!
Good for you on those excellent results. I struggle with the cholesterol numbers (and I'm whole food, plant based!). Keep up the good stuff!
You are allergic to strawberries? My mom was. So we had lots of raspberries around the house when I was a kid--love those, too!
Have a great weekend.

It was freezing here on the weekend and today. Sitting at about -23.8*F with the wind chill. Quite a shock when Friday was above freezing. Nice that you could meet for a social gathering with the study group and not just a study day. We do fun nights once in a while too. That movie makes me laugh everytime. So over the top crazy. I am not a flannel sheet fan but did pull out flannel jammies this weekend!
