How in the world did it get to be mid-March already??!
I mean, I know time flies but it seems like I was just back to work after mid- Winter Break!
Much of our 3 inches of snow has melted this past week as the temps have slowly been rising.....and that makes me feel very happy and content.
Let's pause to find more blessings that happened this past week......I'm joining other bloggers over at Susanne's site in the weekly FAVE FIVES. How about joining in? Or leave a comment with a blessing or two that made you smile.
- SAFE TRAVELS! Our youngest girl, Claire, arrived home safely late Friday evening from NH for her week of Spring Break. It was so good to see her! And on Sunday, my husband arrived safely from his hometown in the south of MA after being gone for 10 days helping his mother out while his dad recuperates from a serious illness in rehab. I'm so thankful my loved ones traveled home safely.
Latte from Spot Coffee |
- LUNCH and LATTES: Saturday afternoon, Claire and I went on a mother-daughter date because she had to go to Saratoga to pick up her new pointe shoes so we ate lunch at our fave vegan cafe in town and then walked over to the dance store across town. Afterwards, we were a little chilly as there was a nip in the air so we walked over to our fave coffee shop and ordered lattes and sat and chatted about her classes and dance rehearsals. The time together was so wonderful. I'm thankful for it and for the young woman she is becoming.
a fave red wine |
- COHO RED: This type of red wine is one I really enjoy. Dave found a bottle of it in our basement that I didn't even know we had. We opened it up one evening to have with dinner and it was so good. We don't often have wine but when we do we really enjoy this particular one. And it's heart healthy! Because we typically only drink one glass with dinner we had enough left to have last evening. I'm thankful for times of relaxing and talking together as a family.
- TAXES COMPLETE: Our oldest daughter lives at home with us because although she works full time making a somewhat decent entry level salary, she has a huge loan payment for her federal student loan she needed for college. She's paid back 1/8 of it but just can't afford an apartment on her own in our Capital Region area. In fact, most of her good friends do still live at home. We are ok with it. The perk is that Dave can teach her how to do her taxes online. So they've worked on it together the last couple of years and this year she did much of it herself and has already received her return! Our youngest is in her 2nd year of needing to file so last evening she had Dave help her online. Last year she did it the old fashioned way with paper forms. Because her on campus job is in NH and they don't have state tax, she doesn't have to deal with NH, just NY. We are very thankful that both girls had easy times of filing and that that task is now complete! (now we just have to do ours which we dread as know with this ridiculous new tax reforms, we are gonna have to owe).
my apartment studio Young Chang Piano |
- PIANO TUNED! I finally was able to get my piano tuned. When we had the living room bamboo flooring put in a couple of years ago, we had moved it from one wall to another and then back. And this past winter I moved it again to a new spot where it will now stay. So this past week, the guy who tunes the grand pianos for 3 of the performing arts centers in our area, came to my house to tune mine! His rate is very reasonable...in fact, I paid less this week than I did 10 years ago! He did a fantastic job and I'll have him back in the autumn to get it closer to pitch. He couldn't do the perfect pitch this time as it had been years and he didn't want to break any strings. I appreciated his work and will definitely hire him again. I'm thankful it sounds so good now and that I've been carving out some time in the evenings to sit and play some of my fave baroque and classical pieces I worked on in my undergrad days as a piano major.
That wraps up my faves for the last week.
The temps are starting to get higher and I'm so thankful we've had a mostly sunny week!
Enjoy the weekend!

In my generation the girls and boys were in hurry to leave their parents and have their own nest, today it's the opposite, in my neighborhood there are several young women and men around 30 who still live with their parents. Often it is a question of money !
Love those coffee dates, and although I'm a white wine fan myself, I can relate to that fave, too. Each of my kids boomeranged a couple times before they moved out for good. It's the way of the world these days. How nice to have your piano in tune. Do all of you play?
Having loved ones arrive safely is always a relief. It sounds like you and Claire are getting some nice quality time together during her break. Good for Dave and the girls for being so on top of filing their taxes. It's a task that my husband gets together for our bookkeeper and I'm thankful between the two of them they are very thorough. So glad you are making time to play and enjoy your newly tuned piano.
Glad the family members got home safely and it must be lovely for you to have catch up time with your daughter. Relaxing with a glass of red sounds good to me and I'm thankful that we don't have to do tax returns. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Aren't school loans just ridiculous? We're still paying my son's ten years later. We would have given it to him, but his wife had even more school debt than he did, and they are still paying that off. So glad everyone had safe travels. I had family members traveling, too, this week. It's always so good to get that text that they've arrived safely. The outing sounds fun! It's good to have someone reliable for piano tuning.
Good to hear your hubby and daughter had safe travels. Can't take that for granted and it's a good thing to thank God for. I'm long overdue for a sit down and conversation with our daughter. Hard when you live 6 hours away. It is nice to talk on the phone with her. Glad you had that special time with your daughter. Yes...paying off student loans is difficult. Yippee for a piano tuner that didn't charge an arm and a leg! Hope this new week is going well for you and yours!
I just realized I didn't finish reading all the FFFs and didn't get here to read yours. Oops!
Oh, a reasonably priced piano tuner! Send him my way! I am happy for you getting in the piano practice. (I have been very lazy the past few years)
Hurray for Claire being home this week! Enjoy that time with her.
And yeah, my kids have really had to scrimp to pay on their student loans. I am sure you are proud of her hard work.
