Quite a week faves

This was quite a week.

Busy, sickness, discouragement, broken things....but since I believe we need to look for the blessings in our daily lives, I'm here to share five things that got me through the week....and for which I'm thankful to God for.

I'm joining in on Susanne's FAVE FIVES this week.  You can read how to link up by going here

  • CONCERT:  Friday evening, Courtney gave us free tickets for a concert in the city across the Hudson River from our town.  We hadn't been to this venue in years and it felt like a great way to wind down the week.  Claire opted out as she was out with a friend so it was just Dave, Courtney and I.  It was a benefit for the American Heart Association and the pianist/singer/songwriter is the son of the HR woman at Courtney's job.  I loved his piano playing more than his voice but overall it was a very good concert. His songs reminded me of ColdPlay and Billy Joel and in fact, those musicians were huge influences in his own writing. He shared that he is legally blind in one eye.  You couldn't tell from the excellent command he had of the piano.  He's a local musician but he does have music on Spotify and YouTube if you're interested.  It was a lovely evening out.  During intermission we bought his mom's famous chocolate chip cookies and all the proceeds went towards the AHA.  I'm thankful for a nice, free evening out and that the weather was beautiful!

  • SUNSHINE AND WARMER TEMPS:  My throat was very sore all day Saturday and by Sunday I had what I thought was a raging head cold.  It ended up being a sinus infection and ear infection but I didn't get to a doctor until Tuesday afternoon because I was trying to treat it with all natural products/essential oils.  They didn't work.I'm thankful for the sunshine and the nice Spring weather!

  • ANTIBIOTICS:  never have I been more thankful for antibiotics than this past week.  I plodded through work, which meant Monday I was master teacher along with the other TA's help, due to H being out plus teaching my own group of students for two days;  and then Tuesday, when my pain level was more than I could bear, I left and went to doc.  She said I had sinus and ear infections. Sent in the rx for a strong antibiotic and today I'm feeling much better.  I'm very thankful for the science behind medicine.

  • BOOKS and HOT COFFEE:  there's nothing quite like good books and steaming hot coffee on the day you take a sick day.  Wednesday I was home using hot compresses on my sinus cavity and ear and let me tell you, having a good book to read and hot coffee to sip helped my spirits tremendously. So thankful for coffee and books...just these simple things!

ok so the video didn't work here...not sure why!  Let's just say it was gorgeous!  Here's a photo of Claire with her 2 former dance class friends after the show

Claire (member of the University of New Hampshire Ballet Company, Years 1 & 2)
Ashley (graduating from high school in June)
Alyssa (member of the Nazareth College Dance Company, Year 1)

  • POINTE SOLO: Sunday afternoon Claire performed at this venue with her former Academy of Dance that was a part of from 2004-2017.  She danced with the ballet group and it was lovely to see her with some of her former dance friends. One girl, a year younger, who is now in college, danced as well.  It's wonderful when they come back to dance with the younger girls.  Claire was also in an opening number (not on pointe) that was fun...a Zumba type ballet.  But the solo is the one I was able to get on video with my phone. Sadly, in one spot, a man standing behind me, bumped my elbow....the entire dance is just over a minute.  It is Shade 2 a selection from the ballet La Bayadere. It was really nice to see her 2 younger friends again, and also to see her former ballet instructors.  I'm thankful that even though I felt lousy that I had a chance to go!
That wraps up my week.

Here in the USA we are having a 3 day weekend, although my school is off today as well as we didn't use all of our snow days!  So I have a 4 day weekend.

Let's thank God for all of the Armed Forces and for all of the veterans who have served our country.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Aw, I'm sorry you were so sick! But glad you're on the mend now. Hopefully you'll feel back to normal soon.

The best part of a sick day is being able to rest and read. I'm glad you could go to Claire's program.

Sorry to hear you've been so unwell. Hopefully by the time you finish the antibiotics you'll be feeling much better. Glad it didn't stop you getting out to see Claire. Hope you have a restful weekend.

Sounds like this 4 day weekend came at just the right time. Sorry you had this horrid sinus infection. The concert sounds like it was nice. Love when local artists have fund raisers like that. And glad that that the infection didn't stop you from seeing Claire dance. Have a restful weekend and get better quick!

It sounds like having the four day weekend came at the right time. I hope you recover quickly and feel fine for next week. (sometimes a rx is the right thing)
How fun to see your girl dancing again with her friends!
