Vacation Week 2 Faves

Here we are into July and this last week of vacation has been here at home getting things done around the house, doing some day trips, and catching up on some reading.

I'm taking a break from laundry this morning to share FIVE FAVES from the past week.  Then I link up at Susanne's site to join others in giving thanks for the things God brought into our lives this week.

What about you? What made you smile this week or was a blessing? Please join in by linking up or leaving a comment!

FIVE FAVES

  • ANNIVERSARY!  Dave and I celebrated 29 years of marriage on Sunday 30 June.  Instead of spending yet more money going out and doing something, we went to church together and then I bought him some beef steak (I haven't eaten beef since 2014 and he rarely gets it) and my self a bison steak and he grilled steaks for our anniversary dinner.  I made a few side dishes, both girls were home to help us celebrate and we enjoyed some cold drinks.  Then we watched a movie on Netflix (I Am Mother....very unusual for me to watch science fiction..I must really love him! ) together.  It was just so nice to unwind after unpacking and cleaning up all our Adirondack vacation stuff the night before. I'm thankful we've had the blessing of the Lord for 29 years and that even though marriage hasn't been all sunshine and roses, that we have Christ to turn to to help guide us and extend mercy and forgiveness to each other. I'm so thankful for the Bond that binds us together.

  • RELAXING AND READING!  Monday and Tuesday were my days to get caught up on errands, mail, paying bills that arrived while we were away and housework.  In the late afternoons though after creating a reading and relaxing area in our backyard, I plopped my self in that chaise lounge (found the cushion on  clearance at Lowe's!!) with iced tea and a book from the library. I also did my morning Bible time out there.  We get the morning sun in the back until about 1:30 pm when the sun begins to go around to the front of the house.  I love sitting on my deck in the early morning sun but by afternoon I also like this shady area we created.  I'm thankful for restful times throughout the day.

  • FITNESS WALK:  Tuesday I had two errands to run and then decided, since I was wearing work out  clothes, to grab a sandwich and coffee from a local coffee shop and head to the south part of town to The Crossings, our town's big park.  I sat and read by the pond and then took my things to the car where I decided to grab my umbrella as it looked like rain and do a mile walk.  I ended up walking for 1.6 miles and it was getting more humid with every step.  The walk felt great and I ended it by the War Memorial.  I snapped a few pics on my walk.  There were hardly any people out in the park that morning. I'm thankful for nice parks to walk in.

  • HIKE!  My friend Cheryl from central NY was the only person who signed up to hike in the group I lead. I took her to Rooster Comb Mt that I first climbed last Sept.  It was a HOT and HUMID day Wednesday so although I usually hike faster, I slowed down so she could keep up.  She loved the summit as much as I do so that was a huge plus!  We had a great, although hazy, view of Mt Marcy (still has snow on top!) which is NY's highest mountain at just over 5000 feet.  Giant Mt which I climbed before entering college, is in the background and that is NY's 12th highest peak.  The one we climbed is just a little over 2000 feet but the trail is 2.5 miles one way so we hiked 5.4 as we also took the spur trail to an overlook.  I'm thankful for great hikes with good friends!

  • INDEPENDENCE DAY PICNIC:  Dave and I had a BBQ lunch at my sister's place in the woods of central NY. They live just on the edge of the Adirondack Park and the lake we wanted to go to was closed to more day use people as it was over crowded so the ranger had to turn us away.  But we enjoyed our time at Hope and Donny's home and they had AC on which was something we were very thankful for!!  We came home in the early evening after stopping for soft serve ice cream and I watched some neighborhood fireworks seen from my family room deck doors because  the neighbor behind us was doing them.  I was thankful to see fireworks and be inside the central air as we've had temps in the low 90s and very high humidity.  I'm also thankful it's supposed to be less humid by tomorrow evening!
I hope you all had a wonderful week and are looking forward to a great weekend!

Happy anniversary! Sounds like a lovely celebration! Love your shady spot in the yard. We saw a few fireworks from our front porch, and thankfully it was much less humid in the evening than it had been earlier in the day.

Happy Anniversary! Your little reading area in the yard looks so inviting. Sounds like it's good and hot over there. Hiking with that humidity?... you are a trooper! But nice that you and a friend could enjoy that together.
