I'm so thankful it's Friday.
It's been a long, hard week for a variety of reasons.
I'm participating in Susanne's weekly Fave Fives....the post we do based on five of our favorite happenings or moments or things from the past week. It's good to give thanks and take note of the blessings that come our way, even in the hard weeks.
FIVE FAVES
- HAMILTON! Since there are no Broadway shows going on due to the virus, we waited until Hamilton came out on Disney + to see this highly acclaimed musical. Wow. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. You have to approach it with an open mind because it's in rap style (soooo vastly different from the classics) but the acting and choreography are exceptional. It's so well done and I actually learned a lot about the man. And Lin Manuel Miranda who wrote it, also stars as Hamilton and the movie includes the original Broadway cast, filmed while performing in the Richard Rogers theatre in NYC. I'm thankful we were able to watch this as a family, even if we can't take the train into the City.

Dave helps Courtney build her new computer! 11 July 2020 |
- BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! Saturday was our oldest daughter's 27th birthday. How is that possible??! What fun she had helping Dave build a computer. He gifted her with all the supplies they needed so she could have a gaming computer. (she bought her own Mac computer shortly after graduating from college). She games with people she's met from all over the world (met them in Texas at some convention she attended last year). It was a lot of fun seeing her build this. They did it in just one afternoon! I surprised her with her fave chocolate cake and some new earrings she was wishing for. It was a fun day for her. I'm thankful for our oldest daughter and the young woman she is becoming.
- COOL MORNINGS: this week we've had some nice cool, although still a bit humid, mornings. We opened the windows a couple of mornings (our oldest daughter turns on the central air while I'm at work as the upstairs where Dave's home office is does get very hot in the afternoon sun on that side of the house) I enjoyed breakfast on the deck quite a few mornings and it's a lovely way to start the day....I'm thankful for nice summer mornings.

- ENCOURAGING WORDS: the Executive Director of the preK agency where I teach (she oversees our 4 preK sites that all serve children with special needs) is someone I consider a friend. She is so down to earth and encouraging. This past week she reached out to me about something and gave me such a sweet text one morning before we even got to work! She came to our site and I showed her my language group classroom and she gave me the nicest compliment. I also showed her the changes our teaching team did in our main classroom where the head teacher (Heather) leads. I'm very thankful to hear words of praise from her; her job is HUGE especially with this pandemic and our remote learning that has taken place for 13 weeks. We open to the students on Monday, though, and we are all thankful for her leadership in making this happen!! (sadly, I cannot show you a pic of my own little classroom where I teach 5 students for language circle as it was still being painted!)
- PHONE CALLS AND TEXTS: I heard from a couple of good friends (one is my spiritual mentor) this week while out walking in the evenings. And I was able to text with 2 other friends I haven't spoken with in a while. It was just so nice to get caught up and hear their voices. And to text with the 2 that I haven't heard from in awhile. I'm thankful for friends!!
That wraps up my week....I hope you have a relaxing weekend doing some of your favorite things!

Belated birthday wishes to your daughter. Yes time flies - my "baby" was 30 earlier this year lol. I'm glad you remembered some good things to write about. I've struggled this week too. Enjoy your weekend.
Happy Birthday (belated) to Courtney. A gaming computer build with dad's help is such a great gift. So glad to hear you are ready to get back up and running at school. So nice you have a good, kind, supportive director. You aren't alone - my week has also been up and down. I think it part of this whole pandemic and what we are all going through as a society right now. Have a great weekend.
What a fun Dad/daughter project for Courtney's bday. Happy birthday to her. What a blessing to have a person who gives you good support at work and encouraging words. I saw that Hamilton was picked up by Disney+. I've been debating whether I wanted to watch or not. I might give it a chance on the weekend.
Happy belated birthday to Courtney. How fun for her to build the computer with her dad. Double the gift, for time spent together. It's nice to have one's work appreciated, especially when you love your job as much as you obviously do. We don't watch much tv in the summer months, but just started a new show, as the evenings are so hot to be outside. I will have to look into Hamilton. It was supposed to come to Denver again this year, but has been postponed until 2022.
Belated happy birthday to Courtney! My youngest built his own computer, too--the first time with his oldest brother's help a few years ago. He had to replace some parts this year. He does a lot of gaming, too, with people on line, some of whom he met in Atlanta at a convention (DragonCon, I think). How nice to have some words of encouragement from your director. Always good to connect with friends.
Happy Birthday to your girl. I love that photo of her creating her computer with her dad.
I know you are back in the classroom today. And I know you are loving it. It is such a blessing to have a good boss.
Keeping in communication with friends is so important. A dear friend of mine has moved (this week!) and we are texting as she makes her way east to her new state.
