Early Autumn Faves

Well, our first 3 weeks of school have ended and we are in a good routine.  Almost all 10 of our students keep their masks on for most of their time with us (8:30-12:30) and a few can even put their own on.  NYS Ed Department as said preschoolers with disabilities do not have to wear them, but as an agency with 4 different sites and some fragile children, we decided we would do our best to get them and their parents on board with the masks.  All is going well. So I guess that should be the top of my thankful list!

It's good to be grateful in all things and I'm sharing FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the week and then linking up with other thankful people over at Susanne's site.  She is our hostess who keeps us looking for the blessings.

  • DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS:  Dave wanted to do some relaxing at home on Saturday, so I drove up to my very favorite southern Adirondacks lake to sit on the beach to pray, read Scripture and read my library book with a packed lunch.  It was heavenly.  I was the only person on the beach for the first hour and then a couple came by to snap some photos.  I think they were tourists based on their conversation.  I also drove down to the village where I spent every summer of my childhood until age 16 and where my mother was born and raised. I met my cousin Kenny (he lives just outside of town) for ice cream and then did some shopping in the village at a fave ADK Country store.  I even bought a couple of Christmas gifts for one of my sisters.  Although I prefer the central region of the Adirondacks, the southern region is closer to our home so I was back at home to cook dinner by 4 pm.  It was a day alone that I needed and I'm thankful for it. I'm also thankful that the leaves were already  turning beautiful autumn colors in that region as you can see from my photos!

  • BACKYARD BONFIRE:  Saturday evening after dinner, Dave made a nice fire in our fire pit and roasted some marshmallows for us to have s'mores. We sat together talking for about 45 minutes watching the fire.  Then he wanted to watch something on his laptop so I stayed out side and our oldest daughter joined us.  She was battling a sore throat so didn't stay long. I really enjoyed my time outside Saturday evening.  I'm thankful that so far summer has turned into a very nice autumn with chilly evenings and warm days!

  • SUNDAY MORNING WALK:  Dave and I went to the 9 a.m. church service and then after I changed into my work out clothes, I headed to a new to me trail to power walk over by the Mohawk River Lock 7 area just over our town line.  I had no idea there was a wooded trail system in there!  I did know about the bike path which I did walk for 1 mile before discovering the wooded trails!  I was the only person in the woods.  There were many people biking, running and power walking on the bike path, though.  I'm thankful I discovered a new trail system only 10 minutes from our house and I plan on going back with a friend or Dave because in the photo just above this, the red blazes just end although the trail breaks up into 3 different directions. I didn't want to venture that by my self for safety reasons.  It was a great morning for a power walk and then I was able to run a couple of errands before coming home to do some housework and have lunch with my husband.

  • SURPRISE TEXT!! Dave totally surprised me while I was at work Wednesday by saying we could go back to Long Lake (where we rent a cottage in the summer) for Columbus Day weekend. I get out at 1 pm on Fridays this year so he took the afternoon off so we can get there by dinner time.  We plan on spending two nights and hiking.  He has to work on Columbus Day so I'm thrilled we can Friday through Sunday up there!  I'm thankful for a husband who is ok with all of my wishes. (I had been wishing we could go back for autumn!!)

  • PHONE CALL!  Claire surprised me with a phone call last Friday evening.  (she's a senior at UNH living in an on campus apartment and being covid19 tested twice a week.....UNH has made national news for being the first major university to have cutting edge technology in dealing with covid testing and keeping the numbers of positive cases to a very low 1.5 % (there are about 15,000 students and faculty at that university).  I was so thankful to hear her voice.  She takes forever to return a text message and hardly ever calls!  She's busy and very independent.  I'm so thankful we had a nice long conversaton and Dave even managed to get a few words in too!

BONUS FAVE: an after work hike/walk/trail run in one of our local nature preserves.  It's only 9 minutes from my house!  I go at least 2 times during the work week to get my heart rate up.  These are 3 of my fave photos from Wednesday afternoon's run/hike.  I'm so thankful I live in the northeast where Autumn is truly beautiful!

The Lisha Kill is full and flowing!
Just last week I was sitting on that branch with a mostly dry creek bed!
This was an afternoon after an evening and morning of much needed rain!

I hope you all have a wonderfully relaxing weekend and a special way to recharge after the work week!

HAPPY WEEKEND!!

You've had a full week! It's good your students are handling the mask-wearing well. That's so neat that you get to go back to the cottage for a fall weekend. Glad Claire is doing so well and you got some nice walks and lovely scenery in.

I always love your Friday fave fives because of the all the beautiful outdoor photos! You live in such a gorgeous place! Autumn is the prettiest time to be outdoors.

Such beautiful fall pictures. My oldest girl is like your Claire. Very independent so it's a treat to hear from her. Glad your first weeks at preschool went well and that your students adjusted so easily to the mask wearing. Here they don't have to wear masks until grade 4. Time alone at a lake with a good book sounds like heaven.

Your comment about independent children prompted me to send a text to my independent son just now. Hopefully, he responds!
All those trails! I'm actively looking for trails around here now. I mentioned two on my post.
Happy Weekend to you!
